Returning to a more on topic vibe, I can?t say that I?m surprised that some lazy, uninformed journalist has invented such a link. I?m only surprised they weren?t from the Daily Mail.
EDIT - On a positive note, it does only seem to be this paper that mentions it, rather than the British Media in general. This is progress people. At least for now, until one of the big boys runs with this angle.
It's the EVENING Standard, I imagine all the other papers will be busy blaming Pong and Space Invaders tomorrow
Really tho, it's hilarious to see them desperately name check GTA in an attempt to be relevant, it's like some 70 year old judge trying to blame rap music and 'that snoopy dogg fellow' for all crime.
On a serious note however, aren't one of the biggest causes of rioting and street violence the British print media? Would we even HAVE the EDL showing up looking to fight 'foreigners' at marches if both immigrants and Muslims hadn't been so heavily and constantly demonised by the press?
I think the EDL and the BNP would consist of about 3 retarded skinheads per town, if it wasn't for the hatred stirred up by the Mail/Sun/Express etc. Whereas videogames generally actively allow you to be who you want, much of the time, and don't care you're murdering so long as you do it in a cool way
Also, I'm sceptical whenever I read 'riot' as it usually means 500,000 peaceful protesters showed up and 3 skinheads chucked a bin thru a window, therefore it was 'a violent riot' and the press can ignore the reason for the march, as seen on the student protests.
also, the edit doesn't surprise me, the Mail recently rapidly reworded an article about a girl killed by a tragic accident after realising that trying to blame striking teachers for the death by falling tree branch was perhaps slightly wrong. The press will use any stretch of the imagination to blame games, or any of their other favourite targets, until they're actually told they've gone too far, usually in the online comments sections.
Makes me want to adapt a sig I recently saw into this 'A regular guy, a banker, and a student are in a room with ten biscuits. The banker grabs nine and yells at the guy 'Quick, man, that student's going to loot YOUR biscuit!'
