I look forward to being just as disappointed with Reach as I was with Halo 3.

See, sometimes I think that I'm the only person on this site who actually thought that the Halo games got better each time. Halo 1 was great, Halo 2 was better, and Halo 3 was even better. And I think that Halo Wars just about managed to do a console RTS well. But nevertheless, as both a Halo fan and an advocate of better story and gameplay for all games, I think this is pretty good. I still want to see somewhere down the line a continuation of the Master Chief's story, because that isn't done yet, especially with the cliffhanger in Halo 3. But seeing Reach, I think Bungie are making a real effort to avoid the problems that some people keep claiming were part of the second and third games. And that can only be a good thing. Personally, I reckon Reach will end up being very different to anything we've already seen in the Halo universe, while still sticking to all the things that made the series so good and still pleasing those of us who care about the story of Halo. And that excites me somewhat :).
I secound that.

No, I think the same thing. I don't get why people say the first was the best, with it's repetitive level design.
Let's just agree that they're all as bad as each other.

"Super robust" AI, huh? Will it make our CPU-controlled allies not drive vehicles into walls and rocks anymore and actually exercise some sort of "intelligence" when fighting enemies? See, I like me some Halo, but the friendly AI is just...terrible.

I've actually come around to rather like Halo, but there's no denying it's fallen prey to the sequel-numbering method that Yahtzee so grandly dubbed the "Because I Say So" method, and that's usually a bad sign.

i dont think the game has any thing to do with the book its ment to be 100 years or something befor the "fall of reach" back in the 1st set of spartens, master chief was in the 2ed set of spartens if it was on the book or round about that we would end up as master chief again trying to flee reach cause they had just gotten away from reach in halo1

so im thinking it will be that we are playing as someone fighting the coveys on one part of reach someone whom dies ofc.
I'm sorry for bringing this thread back up but I just had to ask...

What in the world did you just ask? And how did you think it made any sense?

"The difference between the fully scripted experience, like Uncharted, or the organic experience you can receive in a Halo game speaks to its longevity. You can keep playing single-player missions over and over again and get a different experience."

wtf?
they're both linear games with no choices (so far atleast, perhaps he is talking about the future releases?)
if not wtf is up with that?

besides from that sounds ike itll be better than halo 3 but of cours they would say that wouldnt they.

I just hope Microsoft just shoves off.
I mean, seriously. They messed up the whole Halo trilogy by demanding them to be done before they were really ready. Bungie is capable of wonderful things, I know it. Anyone who got to know Marathon would prolly agree with me here. They can get a great visual aesthetic, good gameplay mechanics- all they need is more time.

I have to say that Halo's AI has always impressed me - mainly from an experience I had on Halo 1!

I was hiding behind a rock and firing off a few rounds at an Elite that was taking cover behind a large tree. He hid behind the tree and I ran out to go around the tree and hopefully catch him from behind - instead, he wasn't behind the tree, and as I came completely around the tree I was behind him, and saw him standing in the open firing like mad with his plasma rifle. I only had a second before he turned, and then went "BAAADAAA CHEEEDAAA BAAA!" when he saw me - not expecting me to be behind him I suppose. After the fight, I realized he had been firing at the rock I was hiding behind!

Now, it's not uncommon for a game to do this with their AI - but at the time, I was so sick of games where the enemy ALWAYS knows exactly where you are when 1% of your body shows from around a corner to their left or right. I was really disappointed with Half-Life 2's AI compared to the first Halo (and I love my Half-Life 2). I love a game FPS where you can actually flank enemies or get behind them without them just "knowing" exactly where you are.
