Ok, today is Command & Conquer day on Steam -- http://store.steampowered.com/sale/ea_week -- so the games are on discount. I like strategy in general, be it RTS or turn-based (Warcrafts, Starcraft, Civilizations, Alpha Centauri, Master of Orion, etc), but I never got much into C&C. I played one of them (the second one I think, don't know) but didn't like it. However, this deal is tempting.

I don't want to spend $33 on C&C 4, and both C&C 3 and Red Alert 3 are 14.99. I'd like to get one of them to see if I like the series. Which one do you people recommend, which is better, and more importantly, why? Or are both equally worthy?

Both are pretty fun really, I enjoyed Red alert 3 more, because it felt more fun to play. Plus Soviet battle bears. What more do you need?

Which do you love more: Self-satirisation and deliberate, blatant fanservice or Joe Kucan?

Personally? I'd get both, but I prefer C&C3 because Joe Kucan=The Messiah.

I'd get C&C 3. I quite enjoyed it though I would recommend you look into getting earlier command and conquers if you can.

I would get Red Alert 3, I own both games and I love RA3, besides, we could verse online if you got RA3.

DON'T EVER GET CnC4! EVER!

That's my 20 soviet cents worth...

Oh yes, the Russians in RA3 are awesome.

I haven't got C&C 3 but I have got Red Alert 3 and I think its pretty cool...

[sub]I do have the 360 version though so whether my opinion is still relevant is up for debate[/sub]

Both! If you can!

But it depends C&C3 with the Kanes Wrath Expanison added a slew of new units and missions. And Red Alert 3 has the Kirov Airhips, great colors and with the expanison you get the Allies Harbinger Gunship (my new fav)

They're both decent, but I think C&C3 has the better single-player. RA3 definitely has the better multiplayer.

RA3 is really silly but that's good thing. Some of the units are just so fun to use.

Yeah I'd like to get both, but I don't know if I'll be able to play them. Damn Steam and its sales :)

I'd go for C&C3, but your mileage may vary. If you want to play a strategy comicbook with massive fanservice and frankly a VERY shoehorned-in-feeling 3rd side go with RA3, and no it's not as good as it sounds. If you want an epic story seen from both sides of the conflict, shown via gritty visuals and quite honestly less gimmicky gameplay, with one of the most charismatic villains in any videogame and yes it has hot ladies too, go with C&C3.

Better yet, get Kane's Wrath as well and have 9 subfactions for skirmish :D

I can't actually speak for multiplayer. I follow yahtzee's "games must stand on their own two feet in SP" philosophy. The skirmishes I did play in RA3 were not much fun for me though...

I honestly don't know. RA3 was very funny if you know the series well, but C&C3 has Kane, and kane is the evilest ************ ever.

As I'm guessing you don't know C&C games very well, go for C&C3.

Right now I'm thinking about getting both and then, later, if I really like one of them, I'll get the expansion. Too expensive to get both games + expansions right now.
