I was half expecting a giant mech to turn up at the end, I mean the trailer pretty much had everything else. I'd point out how improbable all this appears but then it's hard to criticise a trailer where a dog takes down a helicopter in mid flight XD

Also, "The enemy attacked from south of the equator"? What, so they're getting invaded by... Brazil?
My guess would be those crafty Polynesians, or maybe it's the Aussie's turn to be the bad guys. Or better yet some sort of all star team up of every southern equator nation :p

Though being slightly more serious I imagine it will be some none specific South American nation or one with a made up name such as Zenozuela or Dolumbia as not offend the real nation that the fictitious nations draws some comparisons to.

Did anyone else laugh when the astronauts pulled out guns?
Not me, during the Cold War both the Soviets and the Americans actually trained very small groups of special forces astronauts for space combat. The whole space race teetered on the brink of becoming a space war, one of the sticking points was manned surveillance platforms. Cameras where the size of busses and needed specialised miniature space stations to house them, because of the wet film they used skilled operators that could both use the equipment and understand intelligence gathering enough to be able to take the images and prepare which ones to send back to Earth (due to the limited payloads) as well as to protect the station. The public never really knew the true nature of these stations at the time and where simply told they where for scientific research, in reality they had huge wet film cameras and masses of ELINT and SIGINT equipment.

Both sides where considering forcibly boarding these facilities and worried about the other side doing the same, hence the combat astronaut training. The Soviets even armed one platform with large caliber armour piercing cannon, the kind usually found on gunships and IFVs.

"Brings The Fight into Space." Yes! Finally, Call of Duty with laser guns! Bring it on! Wait...why are they still using regular old guns? Expectations raised and utterly dashed in under ten seconds. Sigh...

Seriously, I want a Call of Duty game with Star Wars blasters please.

Anyway, I too am one of the people who buys the CoD games for the campaign. This one look interesting, although I'm forced to wonder if the U.S. has been destroyed, how are their still operatives running around with that much gear and tech? I'm guessing the U.S. isn't completely destroyed then. Or someone found a military safe house.
I remember when I was in middle school, I used to joke about how the countries in South America were never involved in any of the big wars (yes, I know they were in some ways, but you get the point) because they were busy building up their own armies and resources to take over the world in one giant surprise attack. I.W. has stolen my idea!

Dog versus helicopter. Just yes please.

You guys are all no fun.

This looks like the usual fantastically ridiculous action movie the CoD campaigns have been since Modern Warfare.

I think it actually looks fantastic, though, as usual, not worth a full $60. They should allow people to buy the campaign separately for less. I'd be all over that.
I forced myself to play MW2 some time ago and eventually uninstalled it after a couple of hours. The game felt constrained, obnoxious and just plain dumb. I sincerely have no idea why people choose to support these broken designs.

Do regular guns even work in a vacuum? I was kinda hoping for railguns or something that they use for space combat.

Also I think they just showed Riley's death scene there, how is he going to live after trying to drag someone out of a helicopter whilst barely hanging on?

One more thing... that quote, I wouldn't say it's a particularly good one. Giving your sons' lives for the country you love? Screw that.

They do, but without gravity and air there will be huge problems with recoil and lack of heat dispersion.

Fun fact. There was even soviet space station with mounted aircraft autocannon.

I said this on another site, but I'll say it here as well:

"A man who truly loves his country doesn't just give his life. He gives his son's..."

Quoting from the Fascist Guide To Parenting there Infinity Ward? It's a bit creepy when the trailer you're using to sell your game to the fanbase sounds like it could have been written by Joseph Goebbels.
Huh.

I thought it just sounded cringe-inducingly patriotic, but yeah... now that you mention it, it does sound pretty fascist. Primacy of the state and all that.
Even sadder: not even that original. The concept of the son finishing the job of the father is pretty much the entire plot of Black Ops II. They could have at least ripped off a concept from another series. I can't name one right now, but still...

Except it isn't broken. At all. I've never experienced a broken moment in the campaign. It's masterfully crafted for what it is- an action movie gun porn with craziness turned up to 11.

It would be broken if there were sections that were impossible to beat.

It would be broken if there were glitches or massive exploits that were easy to perform even by inexperienced players.

It would be broken if there were points of no return that left you with no way to rearm in dire situations.

As it stands, the campaigns are always exactly what they intend. Linear action movies.

If you want a game with real choice go play a game that advertises choice. Games never used to NEED choice to be highly praised. I fucking hate how much shit people give linear games nowadays.

Now, I'm not saying it's perfect. As I said, the games are never worth the full price tag.

But don't go around calling something broken if it works just fine for its intended purpose.

Also, I kinda want to annihilate the ************ that put those ads on the side that play a huge ass video whenever you mouse over them on this website because IT KEEPS HAPPENING WHEN I TRY TO EDIT MY OWN GOD DAMNED POST.

GET RID OF THEM. They're one of the main reasons I stopped posting on here as often.

Amen! CoD does exactly what it says on the tin, and it does it damn well. Personally, I prefer the IW style, and really enjoyed the single player campaigns. Don't want a CoD game? Go and play something else.

I'm surprised that the comments have reached this far without the usual moronic bleating of 'wah, it's exactly the same as the last one but with a few different textures, wah wah wah', which of course is total nonsense.

In the year Space, America is attacked by hostile nations. Now, in a world at war, you must walk the road to victory using the tools of modern warfare. If you succeed, it will be your finest hour.

Black ops.

I didn't like this trailer nearly as much as I liked Black Ops 2's. That one more or less convinced me that I'd eventually buy the game, and I did, five months after release. That one showed some stuff that was actually pretty cool, like the drones [small]and horses[/small] while this one is pretty much Modern Warfare 3's again, minus the whole, "Will of a single man," thing.

By broken designs I meant highly scripted campaigns. It worked well with CoD4 since it was relatively new thing that really added to the immersion and atmosphere but in later games it was just tedious and caused more problems. In MW2 there are rooms that will spawn enemies infinitely unless you progress to the other end of the section to trigger another script that will move the action forward, hell you can even ignore all your enemies and just run towards the next objective and it will also move the action forward magically disposing of all the guys you were just fighting. This just breaks all immersion and makes the game world feel artificial, you just don't care about anything but running from point a to b to progress the action.

Just watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RULv6HbgEjY

But of course you are right there are people who like this action film design and we shouldn't deny them the thing they enjoy.

As for the ads use adblock ;)

Well, I... I'm rather shocked. Normally people respond to my "CoD isn't as bad as you make it seem" rants with insults or just by claiming I'm wrong. Not only did you make a good point, but you also admitted that people who enjoy it should be able to get it.

Thank you for that, seriously. My day hasn't been going the best and that actually made it a bit better.

Also, I can neither confirm nor deny that I'm considering that.

You guys are all missing the point that CoD is trash. I am sorry but ever since MW3 they have gone down hill. Cod 4, W@W, MW2 were phenomenal...I apologize wrong post for my ranting on how CoD is all down hill. Lets focus on CoD Ghosts...WTF? Space combat are they serious? Space is a vacuum! No oxygen which is a key component in firing a gun in the first place! Therefore its impossible and just flat out stupid.

lol Love what that guy was talking about, Brazil attacking is hilarious!

But seriously -_- this game in the end is just going to be a laughing stock and will only be played for online. To infinity ward, you guys have lost it.

Sounds like I-Dub needs to get it together.

The Call of Duty series has done plenty of outlandish things, though. They even wanted to do the whole "battle in space" thing in Modern Warfare 2, but they realized it kind of broke up the narrative even further, so they replaced it with the ISS getting destroyed by the detonation of a nuke that also manages to black out the entire east coast of America.
