Call of Duty: Ghosts' Extinction Mode Classes Detailed

You'll be able to choose between one of four classes in Call of Duty: Ghosts' alien hunting "extinction" mode.

Coming off the reveal of the new alien-hunting Extinction gamemode [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/129126-Call-of-Duty-Ghosts-Confirms-Extinction-Mode-With-Co-op-Trailer] that will act as the Zombies/Spec Ops replacement in Call of Duty: Ghosts, Infinity Ward has delivered a blog post that goes into a bit more detail on each of extinction's playable "classes". You'll be able to choose from one of four classes, each with unique abilities. They are as follows:

Weapon Specialist
20% more bullet damage.
The Weapon Specialist focuses on one vital task: destroy as many aliens as possible. The extra bullet damage really comes in handy when dealing with heavily armored threats or when fighting back a swarm of smaller enemies. Weapon handling continues to improve as the Weapon Specialist gains levels.

Tank
25% more health.

The brute of the group, Tanks stand at the front and take hits that would otherwise knock out other, more fragile classes. The extra health lets you play more aggressively, getting into the thick of things and coming out alive. Additional levels further improve the Tank's health in addition to their lethality.

Engineer
Provide armor for the drill and earn more bonus cash.

Without a functioning drill, your team will have a very difficult time progressing. The Engineer offers much needed protection to the team's drill, incredibly useful during moments when you get overwhelmed. Drill maintenance and trap efficiency improve as the Engineer gains levels.

Medic
Revive allies more quickly.

When things go wrong - and they will go wrong - the Medic's there to pick up the pieces and get the team back in fighting condition. Fast revivals can mean the difference between success and failure, and an active Medic can help turn the tide of an intense battle. The Medic gains faster movement speed and powerful healing abilities with additional levels.

It certainly sounds like Extinction will be a fun little extra game mode to play with friends, when the regular Call of Duty multiplayer grows tiresome.

Looks like those are the most basic "classes" one can think of.
More Damage
More Health
Better Heal
Fixing stuff

Well, then again, the whole mode smells like just an attempt to copy Zombies. So expecting some actual work is unrealistic.

Quake 2 gloom mod was better back in the late 90s. This sounds like poor filler to pad the game out.

What bugs me is the fact that even though they replaced the stale as shit zombies with aliens (that can lead to more creative enemy types) they still just bothered to make the most boring ass alien type (the one that acts like a dog).

Dogs were even already in the zombie mode, this really adds nothing to the gameplay experience in terms of variety

Fighting aliens now? Way to go COD, your next biggest innovation will be Zombies and aliens all in one match. After that? Terminators.

Hell, you might just catch-up with Crysis....
Funfact - BO1 had Aliens already. One was dead as an Easter Egg in the map "Hangar 18", the other was basically the whole point the zombies exist in Zombie-Mode. They were never seen or mentioned but considering the existence of a pyramid on the Moon by 1944 (give or take a year, the game never gives a specific one) from a clear non-human origin...
Second Funfact: Zombies are only in Treyarch Games. This is an Infinity Wards game. So no, these will never be in the same game.

You do know that there is more than one type of enemy in Zombies, right? Here follows a short list of enemies that exist in Zombies, that are NOT the basic Zombie (enemies with an asterix are humanoid, but act vastly different):

1. Hellhounds (Shi No Numa, Riese, Kino der Toten)
2. Gas Zombie (Kino der Toten, "Five"), Phase Zombie (Moon - they are identical to Gas, but teleport short distances, too)
3* Pentagon Thief ("Five)
4. Space Monkey (Ascention)
5* George A. Romero (Call of the Dead)
6* Napalm Zombie
7* Shrieker
8* Astronaut
9. Denizen
10. Avogadro
11. Jumping Jacks (Model is modified Gas Zombie, have an entirely different behavious, however)
12* Brutus
13. Ghosts (literal ones, not related to the guys of this game)
14. Panzer Soldat

How are they "stale" compared to the Aliens, again?

Glad to see that I wasn't the only person thinking this. Extinction has my interest piqued, but I need to see it in action. Even the newer zombie maps for black ops didn't warrant my interest to buy it, it was because all my buddies at the shop played it, that made me reluctantly go out and buy it.

Keeping my eye on it, but best "reviews" are when the game launches and the mode is played a couple times. We'll see.

I wish a Call of Duty game would concentrate on co-op. Instead they make a short solo campaign, killbox multipayer and for co-op, a monster horde mode that people like for some reason. I really like co-operative multiplayer, but generally dislike 'horde survival' gametypes. Seriously, give me three teammates, an objective, some enemy soldiers with decent AI and let some emergent stuff happen. CoD: World at War came the closest with co-op campaign, but it was mothballed in favor of more zombies and an even more scripted,on-rails campaign.

They are somewhat varied but with aliens you can push things a lot further and still keep them thematicly consistent (Serious Sam is a good example of enemy variety in a game even though they arent all that consistent).

I dont have a problem with zombies, I even like it but since they are going out of their way to make it with aliens they could really push the envelope a bit further then making aliens that behave closely to the zombies (the ones in the trailer are basicly Hellhounds.

With zombies there are also some cool things that can be made if you put hellish elements to it or sci-fi/fantasy stuff like in the more recent versions of the zombie mode but they really need to go big or go home with this and for now they really havent showed it, especially with the aliens here.

You want a goal? Every single Zombiemap from Ascention onwards has one. In case of "Mob of the Dead" and "Origins", it even ENDS the game.

First, Excinction is a mode by Infinity Wards, Zombies is by Treyarch. They are not related, stop acting like they are.
Second, Treyarch is currently at the end of Zombies due there being no more DLCs. Next year, they probably continue considering they have TWO cliffhangers (three, if you count both endings of Buried seperate. But I presume, they declare the Maxis Ending canon and continue from there) and go even further from then.
Also, how can Aliens, that kinda need to follow at least some basic biological rules to be believable (and some more of gamedesign to work as enemies) be able to go further than Zombies, which don't have to follow any rules anymore (as we already have things like Ghosts and an enemy literally made out of nothing but electricity)?

Long time ago I remember playing Counterstrike (first edition) and being introduced to the Warcraft mod. I was hooked. RPG elements in a FPS? Awesome sauce. Now it's pretty much the staple of any multiplayer game/mode. Not much has changed as it takes the basic Tank, Healer, Damage, and Support roles that most fantasy games employ. I can understand the appeal of horde/survival mode. It gives the game feel like Dead Rising. Nothing like fighting until you're down to the last man against unspeakable odds. Problem is after awhile the challenge dies off since everyone knows what the enemy how to exploit the maps. But I guess that's just me. Still fun, just not as fun as the first few times.

Gotta admit, the more I hear of Extinction, the more I'm reminded of stuff like Left 4 Dead or Killing Floor that did these things a lot better. Zombies is entertaining, but I honestly do believe that CoD's strengths lie solely with its Multiplayer (even if it does tend to blend into itself).

I personally think extinction is an improvement over Zombies. Zombies just became bland.

However, I wont be surprised if it causes some kind of lawsuit. The creatures are far to close to being Tyanids from warhammer 40k for any comfort.
These things are on a Organic starship even.
