It's a shame. I'd hate to be Infinity Ward, being people forced to literally do nothing but create the same game over and over again. It must be boring as hell.
I imagine it must be like Bill Murray's Groundhog Day in those offices.
At least it's a steady paycheck...or, well, at least when Activision isn't engaging in legal warfare with your company execs over insane bonus revenue.
There is the secret. Their next project...

OT:
Yeah, well, they should! I liked the CoD games, and largely not because of the multiplayer. It'd be nice to see what they can do with a lengthier campaign and some more development time.

I'm still amazed they made a whole game based around one random character in MW2. Yeah if I recall, "Ghost" was shot in the head and burned up, if there is something about him surviving that, that shows some kind of desperation for plot.

He wasn't even that compelling. >.<

I think that already happened and it's called Titanfall, apparently before the shitstorm kicked off Infinity Ward pitched Titanfall to Activision, who seemingly decided that a new franchise from the developers who had been right about every decision they ever made wasn't what they wanted.

Oddly, a similar thing happened with Bungie pitching Destiny to Microsoft, there are Destiny references in Halo:ODST and Microsoft had first dibs on it, but apparently big publishers are really stupid.

Witth the big hitters gone I bet it's a terrible paycheck. Activision offered big bonuses before and went to insane (and ultimately futile) lengths to avoid paying, now with the people who are left and the new hires I'd bet they just get a tiny or no bonus at all.

I can believe that, and imagine new hires were offered better base pay than their predecessors to get them on task immediately, but much weaker rates for bonuses to avoid repeating that ugly scandal again.

Besides, I wasn't being completely serious here; it was more about taking a potshot at Activision than anything.

How utterly strange.

I buy the games primarily for the singleplayer. Yet I enjoy the singleplayer campaign immensely.

The multiplayer is an added bonus to keep me busy for a good while once the singleplayer campaign is finished. Yet I also happen to enjoy that immensely as well.

Call of Duty is just one of the many, many types of games that I enjoy. According to your logic, I must be some sort of gaming anomaly.

I play Call of Duty solely for the singleplayer, biggest reason I never really got the hate for the series until I tried the multiplayer. And then I realized that multiplayer shooters are just not my thing.

I like the story in call of duty though. Black Ops II storyline was interesting enough too bad it was rather short. I never bought a CoD game though, only rent, so I guess I couldn't say it's compelling enough for one to buy the game just for it.

You guys forgot Call of Duty: Just Give Us Your Money Already and Call of Duty: We Stopped Caring Five Games Ago.

OT: In all seriousness I like the CoD games, but I don't see where they can go as far as settings and such go in any future games without either BSing it or... no, that's pretty much it, they'd totally have to pull something out of their ass to make new games.

Fat chance, though; I'm fairly certain that Activision forces their dev companies to sign over their human souls.
Actually, that's part of the reason that the whole IW firing scandal occurred. IW wanted to do something else and apparently activision made them make MW2, and promised them huge bonuses if MW2 made tons of cash. Then things got ugly.

I actually kind of liked the ways that BO2 changed the genre a little. Both the fact they tried to give the villian some motivation and personality and tried to make him sympathetic, while also moving to cyberpunk and adding the strike ops missions. I also liked the fact that little things in almost every mission changed the storyline.

Sure, the strike op missions had awful execution but at least it was a new and interesting concept for the series.

Want to discuss the single player campaigns of any of the COD games? I'm game if you are. Or do you just think that because you don't play the single player that nobody does?

I haven't been keeping up with Ghosts, but I kinda saw it as a new trilogy or something. Modern Warfare seemed to wrap up the story nicely, considering pretty much everyone involved was riddled with bullets, strangulated or set on fire by the end of the game. I'm not quite sure where they could really go without pulling a bullshit retcon... not that that's unlikely or that I really care, mind. I kinda hope that everyone who's dead stays dead though, because the goddamned "He just looked dead" moment [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BibpNMwC4O4] is one of my pet peeves to story telling, and nearly every game does it.

Regardless, this isn't bad news. The series is pretty enjoyable so far, but it's been showing its cracks for a little while now. I'd like to see what else they can do.
I was really hoping that ghosts was actually going to be an interquel for the MW series, covering the 5 years between MW1 and MW2 and showing:

-How Price ended up in a gulag
-Makarov's Rise to prominence(and maybe explaining just whose side was actually on in the series, because in MW2 and MW3 he seemed to work for and against the Russian government depending on the mission. Or maybe the writing was just shit).
-How the Ultra-nationalists took power in Russia.
-All the cool shit TF 141 was apparently doing before MW2 started.
-Perhaps retroactively explain some of the plot threads left over from MW2(We never did find out why the guy in the panic room was important).

I'm surprised no one from ubisoft have said anything about ghosts, because it is a bit close to ghost recon

What's next, Call of Duty: Moderner Warfare? Somehow I don't see them doing anything new considering how much money the franchise rakes in with little to no innovation. Why change your money making formula when rabid fans are eager to throw their money at you regardless as what you make? Just don't change the reload times.
Future Warfare?

To be honest I hope Activision finally recieved planned brain transplantation and realized they have one awesome franchise they have not touched in last 10+years
Battlezone
But somehow I doubt they will make BZ3 :(

Call of duty: Rise of the dog and fish kingdom.

Why does that sound so much more awesome than I thought it did?

I never said I don't play singleplayer, I said CoD's singleplayer is horrible. I know because I tend to play a lot of good singleplayer. ;)

Even though I've stopped buying CoD games, I'm glad to see them "trying something different".
Lets face it though, it will still be the same game, but maybe this time they'll improve it instead of making it progressively shitter?

CoD 4 and Treyarch's WaW were very good games. They have very fluid controls, and an action packed story that draws you in. Multiplayer was good, it offered the same fast paced shooting and made for an enjoyable experience.

MW2 was alright, S.S.D.D (name of the first mission) means "same shit, different day", and it's a spot on explanation of the game.

Blops was a disappointment on all fronts bar campaign, the campaign was actually interesting... actually the reason I enjoyed the singleplayer was because it was hilariously dumb.

I borrowed MW3 off a friend. Since the multiplayer is exactly the same as MW2 but with different stuff, the fact the campaign finally wrapped up the story was ok I guess.

Blops 2 didnt buy it. Don't care.

They need to do something drastically different before I start buying CoD again, rather than just changing the setting, slapping a new subtitle on the box and calling it a new game.

Well, maybe it will be the end of their Modern Warfare games. Personally I can't shake the feeling that they'll go for an "MMO" sort of game next, in the World of Tanks sense of the term, as a more permanent fixture in the FPS world. I'm sure they could even get away with charging full price for the game, and still include all the premium accounts, exclusive pay-for weapons and cosmetic items they could ever want.

I mean, is ANYONE still buying these games for the singleplayer? Anyone? Every person I have talked to that plays this game actively basically just buys a $60 weapon/map-pack every year in order to keep up with their friends and the general palyerbase.
