Looks like it's going to be another depressing dark world :(

I didn't mind the difficulty in the first game, but the world was so depressing I couldn't play it for an extended amount of time. I don't mind dark and grim, but please give me a happy place to explore once in a while.
I mean, I'm still going to buy it because the first was overall amazing, but still... :(
Well, that is one of the main points of Demon's Souls, questing in a barren, hostile land that intends to kill you at every other step. It's grounded in very dark Medieval mythology (or whatever mythology it takes inspiration from), so the whole dark, grim, depressing atmosphere is kind of a selling point. If you want happy, go play an equally as good Katamari game (or 3D Dot Game Heroes if you're in the mood for a throwback to nostalgia).

Nice. I was wondering how the respawns would work in a seamlessly open world. And by the looks of it it seems they're giving the combat a well deserved overhaul as well. I can't wait to sit in front of a campfire in the middle of a poisonous swamp cooking rat carcasses.

Just the dark medievil setting of this game is enough to make me swoon. Reminds me of Berserk...Hmmmmmmm.

The only way you could make Dark Souls harder than Demons Souls is to give everyone who buys the game a blunt knife to cut their fingers off with.

Remember my time in Demon's Souls fondly.
Cowering in fear from the nearest moving object, always feeling paranoid, passing the spot where you did the last time you ran through the game, and hoping you dont die there again.

But im glad theyer making it harder. Anyone who played Demon's souls will probably have an easy time with this game if they didnt up the difficulty.

Yes, Dark Souls will supposedly be tougher than Demon's Souls, ......

.....Mastering combat and defeating these beautiful/disgusting beasts may be a bit easier in Dark Souls, as Miyazaki divulges that From is adding a tutorial to get players past the game's "first step." ......

.....Something else that even the most hardcore might like are Dark Souls' new Beacon Fires. Miyazaki calls them a "place of warmth" within the game's "cold, dark world." They'll serve as a respawn point, and a place where players can replenish their health......
Ok, so reimplement holding the players hand with the tutorial. Making the mobs a bit easier. Increasing multiplayer online interaction. Replenishing health bars at becon checkpoints.

Maybe I am wrong, but it sounds like they are removing basically everything that the people who adored Demon's souls actually liked and replacing it with its direct opposite.

On mob difficulty, Honestly I see this as being a case where the difficulty will be more inflated like from say Ninja Gaiden Sigma and its not difficult due to technique but due to having to survive overwhelming clusters of enemies. Making the combat less about skill and infinitely more about pure luck.

I dont have a problem with the tutorial, I mean I could have used a little help in say teaching me how to target, but really its not a big deal either way.

The beacon thing, just sounds like a cross between fables emoticon communication system coupled with a matchmaking lobby to encourage people to do things together.

Honestly, I might be wrong, but really as that was presented this seems fairly bad direction to go with the series that will likely backfire and be no where near as popular as Demon's I mean how do you remove all the things that made it enjoyable and replace it with things that we know to be unenjoyable, and expect it to have the same response?

I just hope I am wrong.

Awesomesauce, loving Demon's Souls at the moment (although I think I may have broken the game using a Blue Blood Sword build, NG+ will probably knock that condfidence right out of me), nothing gets your heart pumping more than another player invading your world as a black phantom. You know the battle is either going to be very easy or a massive challenge (as was the case today, 3 of the 5 phantoms to invade were easy as hell to kill)

Dark Souls is gonna be awesome...
The Blue Blood sword Was awesome. You didn't break it, but it did last till my NG+++. By the time that arrives, your not doing much. An interesting fact about it though, while other swords that go off basic stats suffer from diminishing returns, the BBS will always get an increase in attack power from your luck. It won't be reflected till you increase it, then look at the sword stats again.

OT: I can't wait for this game, I put well over 100 Hours into that game, and every second was absolutely worth it. Just reading about this makes me want to go play it right now!

Demon Soul's Sequel Dark Souls for Xbox? Well I saw the speed run in 1 hour video on youtube on PS3 so I may get it if it is as fun as Demon Souls looked in the runs.

Okay. I'm going into Cryo-Sleep until the game's launch.
Do you want to hire a cryo-tube? $500 per year though. and $2000 to stay in signiture pods such as the Master Chief's.

"And one more thing........it's been emotional"

I'm glad it's coming out on 360 this time. Demon Souls was one game that could have tempted me to sell a kidney to get a ps3

Epic fail not including the PC, now it'll be a short term game because of no modding.

Sure it'll be an epic short term game...but when was the last time console players massively played Oblivion?

Actually, I don't think there's too much to be concerned over.

Really, Demon's Souls was not exactly "hard", at least for me. The enemies usually had high attack, but weak defenses, so after a few upgrades to yourself, and with proper timing in execution moves, you could easily get through a swarm of whateverthefuck those miner guys were. The game was only challenging when it caught you with your pants down, setting up traps, and putting an unexpected swarm of enemies across the door. That isn't to say it wasn't a difficult game for the wrong reasons, it never felt cheap (to me anyways), but it did use some cheap methods in a not-cheap way. Dark Souls seems to be going that route, just adjusting it slightly in different areas to different people.

People are still playing Demon's Souls until they have to close down the servers.

But they're still not available on the PC...

And they're still massively playing a short term game, and can continue to do so even after the servers will go down.

I don't think the controls would be suitable for a PC anyway (and don't say "Use a controller" otherwise what's the point?)

Emotional Attachment between weapon and wielder, eh? I'm seeing a "Name that weapon" feature in the works.
Time for a triumphant return of 'Mr Stabby' and 'Pointed Stick Firing Mechanism'.
These weapons sound purely fictional, there is no way such murderous weapons of destruction and contention could exist! o_O

To me, the only reason Demons Souls was so tough was because the game didn't instruct you very well. It was mostly a trial and error game. That doesn't mean it was not fun though!

I loved the first one. But I have one thing to ask, who DIDN'T develop an emotional relationship with their weapon in the first one? or was that just me? I still remember when I first forged Northern Regalia... *sniff*... it was so shiny....
