Awesomesauce, loving Demon's Souls at the moment (although I think I may have broken the game using a Blue Blood Sword build, NG+ will probably knock that condfidence right out of me), nothing gets your heart pumping more than another player invading your world as a black phantom. You know the battle is either going to be very easy or a massive challenge (as was the case today, 3 of the 5 phantoms to invade were easy as hell to kill)

Dark Souls is gonna be awesome...
Mind sharing with me how to get the blue blood sword?
Follow this guide, it's gonna be a challenge, but well worth it.

I never played Demon Souls, but the whole thing sounded more like trial and error 'difficulty' than actual skill based gameplay. Is this an incorrect assumption?

Either way, might get this depending on reviews.

A lot of people said it was based on trial and error, but it's not really like that unless you run in recklessly. You can usually see your next targets from quite a distance, and you won't have to deal with the trial and error part of the game if you go through the game carefully.

Not to say that the game can't be unfair sometimes. It can put you on ledges while giant stingrays shoot icicles at you(but you can't shoot back from the same distance) and a few skeletons. The combat itself is good enough though.

It's partially trial and error, but you can do pretty much everything on the first try if you play carefully.

So?the tutorial level will be exactly like the way to the Nexus in Demon's Souls?
I'd wager possibly all the way to Phalanx or mayber Tower Knight in respects to it teaching you what to do cuase lets be honest, from start to nexus well bare minimum information being handed out with the only feedback being you manage to keep your life meter above 1hp or havn't noticed the game thinks you should be dead now but won't since this is training.

Epic fail not including the PC, now it'll be a short term game because of no modding.

Sure it'll be an epic short term game...but when was the last time console players massively played Oblivion?
Short-term game? Demon's souls is still played today competetively, I doubt Dark souls will be any different. Don't be so pompous about it not being on your prefferred system and assume it will "die quickly".

You could shoot back at them if you had one of the better Bows(crossbows in that game were for chumps) knew how to aim for where it's headed and had enough arrows to do it, of course knowing you were gonna get shot in the neck from the sky in the first place would be next to impossible.

the same thing will happen when i played demon souls. beat the first boss make it halfway through the second part and go FUCK IT! but imma still give it a whirl i loved demon souls combat and i miss it even though it was freaking hard
You may have been playing it with the wrong mindset. It's possible to go through the bosses and worlds in any order and I would actually advise not continuing on to the second area of world one until you have better equipment (like an upgraded longbow and 200 arrows to kill that red dragon). I usually spend a decent chunk of time just gathering equipment after beating the first boss before I complete any of the other areas. Playing Demon's Souls as if it were a mostly linear action-RPG doesn't work unless you're really good at it.

I hope it'll actually get released on PC. I wanted Demon's' Soul's so bad, but I don't have a PS3.
It says PC at the bottom, so it will be.
I told you, man! I told you!

Please please in the of all that is good and holy dont go silly with it- Demons Souls was the one game that made me regret not having a PS3 and since this is coming to the 360 Im psyched, but Ive seen so many of these type of things where the games go from hard but fair to hard and cheap, Ive got my fingers crossed that Dark Souls doesnt follow that path.

(Captcha=esucto could, a little juvenile but that made me giggle)

Emotional Attachment between weapon and wielder, eh? I'm seeing a "Name that weapon" feature in the works.
Time for a triumphant return of 'Mr Stabby' and 'Pointed Stick Firing Mechanism'.
In fable 3 I had 'the shitstorm sword' and the 'face fucker upper' rifle.

Godd times.
Oh and my dog was called woof.

Looks like it's going to be another depressing dark world :(

I didn't mind the difficulty in the first game, but the world was so depressing I couldn't play it for an extended amount of time. I don't mind dark and grim, but please give me a happy place to explore once in a while.
I mean, I'm still going to buy it because the first was overall amazing, but still... :(
Well, that is one of the main points of Demon's Souls, questing in a barren, hostile land that intends to kill you at every other step. It's grounded in very dark Medieval mythology (or whatever mythology it takes inspiration from), so the whole dark, grim, depressing atmosphere is kind of a selling point. If you want happy, go play an equally as good Katamari game (or 3D Dot Game Heroes if you're in the mood for a throwback to nostalgia).
It's a completely different genre, but if you want a happier theme without compromising the challenge, Tohou games are pretty good at that.

Well... It was an alternative to being EXTREMELY cautious. The game punished you for rushing forward into unfamiliar territory. Still, some areas required you to be heavily aware of details like a dragon flying in the distance. Anyway, trial and error is avoidable, but chances are you will die at some point and be able to use that knowledge to avoid dying again.

The game gives you plenty of information. All you have to do is read the signs in the Nexus and you know a lot about how the game works.

I love campfire conversations, some will share horror stories, some will share dirty stories, and hoping for mic support so we can chat.

Male Knight: "Do you know any story?"

Female Bard: "Well, this one time, at bandcamp...."

People are still playing Demon's Souls until they have to close down the servers.
But they're still not available on the PC...
Yup PC raging ftw, I thought PC gamers were a master race, they are content playing Crysis and FPS with 999 sensitivity. Games don't need modding to survive. In my opinion a game SHOULD DO WELL without modding. Half Life 2 awesome game, have it on PS3. Even though I don't have 6,000 mods for it.

As for the post

The campfire part sounds amazing. Grab a priest and a mage and you are off to raid the nearest dungeon.

I really hope they encorporate voice support. But, even if they don't, you still have the XBL party system. That's some consolation, right?

Anyway, I look forward to many months and many broken controllers with Dark Souls
