I've gone out and bought the new pokemon game, and I'm hoping for some help sorting this out.

According this serebii.net page, if I'm reading this correctly, each game can, without trading, collect 696 out of a possible 718 pokemon without trading (22 exclusive)?

http://www.serebii.net/xy/exclusives.shtml

So, as with the original Red/Blue, I have X, my friend has Y, we can complete the pokedex? Mew, Cerebii, everyone ever, we just need to trade with each other those 44 pokemon (22 each).

Is this right?

Otherwise, I have the Gen I and II pokemon and my old GameBoys, but it takes several trades (1000s) between GBAs, then all these other confusing methods, like having an original DS or DS lite and using GBA games to release pokemon into some sort of park.

Before I go on, maybe someone will know the answer to my original question, and if not, know the most common/easiest method to complete the 718 long pokedex?

You missed this page
http://www.serebii.net/xy/unobtainable.shtml

These pokemon are impossible to get in x & y.

Also some pokemon are exclusive to friend safari so you might want to check which ones you can only get there.

My advice, check trade forums to get them all.

Thanks, and yeah good advice, a specialist pokemon forum website will definately know, I was just wondering if it was common knowledge enough to be found here, and it turns out, it partially is, so appreciate the pointers there.

EDIT: my rough eye tells me thats 125 unobtainable, but through the magical wonder trade, I've already got a couple from that list, so who knows really?

When the transfer box launches in December people will be able to port their shit over from earlier gens, probably B/W and B/W2. Wonder Trade will be much more wonderful at that point, and much less pidgey.

Also that'll allow fairly easy pokesavving - as long as you generate a "legit" pokemon with allowable movepools, ability, etc it will probably transfer over just fine. You know, if you didn't care about cheating.

PvPers all used pokesav for years because the skill in PvP was all about planning out a team build, executing good swaps, mind games with the opponent, etc and aint nobody had time for manual EV training bullshit when you can easily spend 5+ hours on breeding chains, EV training and leveling only to find out his IV spread is either completely awful or gives a hidden power element you can't use. That system would have only been acceptable if you could actually change or train up IVs, natures, abilities to be "perfect," so a manually trained pokemon wasn't almost always worse than a "hacked" one simply because of bullshit terribly designed hidden, unchangeable stats.

Not that I've ever had a perfectly EV trained Heracross end up with an attack IV of 1 or anything. That would just make me bitter.

I have a complete National Pokedex in Black - I've been transferring Pokemon forwards since gen 3, and then breeding them to get every evolution to hand. I am so ready for Pokemon Bank, I just wish it was out sooner.

Same here. I've been collecting everything I can from all previous games into White in preparation for PokeBank launching! Only a month to go!

In my copy of White, I'm only missing thirteen Pokemon. Of them, I have six or seven in White 2 now, just waiting for the bank to open so I can shove them all together. If we get a Deoxys event this gen, I can probably complete the thing.
