Can I play Team Fortress 2 with a friend in a private match?

I recently gave a friend Team Fortress 2 on Steam. I have it on steam as well. I want to play against her one on one. How do I do it?

Just find an empty server, many of them out there..

One person connect first, other press join friend.

if not, you have to set up your own server..

Start up a server, open your ports, she follows you into a game.
I advise just finding an empty server though.

You can reserve servers for free on Game Arena I believe (Australian service so find the local equivalent). Other than that you will have to make a dedicated server at home or host a small LAN party.

Easy enough to do

Click on Create server. select map (suggest Arena for 1v1).
Click the Game Tab > Give a good Hostname so you friend can find it. Set the player limit if you want but i presume you'll want to put a password on it so no one else can interrupt you. Then hit start

Keep in mind that if you have a poor connection this will effect your friend. The further your friend is from your area, the more lag they will get (generally)
