Can Videogames Make You Cry?

Crisis Core got me pretty close. Even though you pretty much know how it ends, it's still really sad.

Other than that, I don't cry over anything anymore. I'll tear up, but I don't actually CRY.

I guess I felt a little depressed when Shepard betrays you in MW2 but I didn't cry at all, I've never cried over a video game though I mean most games I play the plots are too concerned with "This is the reason why you have to blow shit up" to pause for the sob stories.

Other than that...actually yes. The Tales series has managed a couple of times. Granted, one of those was crying in sheer horror (Tales of the Abyss).

On topic...I agree with the article quite strongly. If the game affects you well enough to start the waterworks, the game has definitely succeeded.
I'm curious as to what caused to to cry in horror at Tales of the Abyss. I didn't feel anything remotely like that though I was sad at the end over Luke's decision. Only briefly though.
I'm only halfway through. I don't know what that decision is.

I'm talking about the post-Akzeriuth scene.

Watching that little boy sink to his death.
Oh that's what you mean. I assumed the terror was because you hated the game. I know what you mean though. That scene was troubling to say the least.

The End of Crisis Core definitely got me teary eyed as i really connected with with Zack and Cloud's characters, the atmosphere was brilliant and quite tragic, made me love the story more than ever

Old news, I'd say. People were crying in games since Planetfall [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetfall#Reaction].

Me, I keep my tears fairly under control, though Aerith made me sniffle.

Ah. Yeah, no, I can't think of any game that's made me cry in disgust. Ring Out - Pro Lesring came pretty close, but I managed to stop it at simply feeling violated and unclean.

As for Abyss...through it, I think I've recovered from that Cat Got Lost game. I love Jade so much...

*following Tear's kuudere-style rejection of Luke*
Guy: "Man, that was cold."
Jade: "Indeed it was!"
Guy: "...you're enjoying this, aren't you Colonel?"
Jade: "More than you could ever imagine."

It's his ear-to-ear grin with that last statement that makes it...

Ever.

As far as I know, I'm only able to cry at funerals
Lucky I can't even do that.
Video games are like movies.... books.... stories.... adventure... reasons to... er sorry, but anyway I would not be surprised is someone cried... I mean people cried when the man stopped drawing the deer.

I was in tears when I went through the campaign in Modern Warfare 2, emerging from that underground bunker to see D.C. in ruins, and the music had such an emotional pitch and feel to it, plus hitting close to home, it tore me up. ;-;

Lost Odyssey. The end was so bitter sweet that I shed a few tears.... I mean what CRY? Never cuz I'm a man!!!

Aeris dying didn't bother me though. I was so certain that I would get her back that by the time I realized it wasn't going to happen the moment was long gone. Sorry Iknow that seems out of left field. I was just reading the post above while typing.

I've never actually cried during a game, but there are definitely times where I have felt down, or depressed at some point. These points I could see people crying, but just not me.

When I was about 6 I had a Legendary Wings NES cart thrown at my face which struck me with sufficient speed as to make me cry. Does that count?

The scene where the kids mother dies in Lost Odyssey did it for me.

The woman who plays Lil (Rugrats) is fantastic.
