Can Videogames Make You Cry?

Same here. I've never actually cried because of a videogame, however I oftentimes feel emotional after beating one. I never feel this way about any other type of media. It's because videogames are interactive that they can make me feel this way.

I've cried laughing? If that counts. Usually from bad voice acting in Resident Evil and Final Fantasy X.

I'm sure I have had a more emotional response but I cannot think of one. I think I get them mixed up with times like that in movies.

I never thought Aeris' death was too sad though. I just never cared for any of the FF characters and think they're mostly interchangable. I think I'd feel differently and cry if I thought otherwise

When I was 8 I finished Chrono Trigger and go the super+ best ending, I recall getting a bit misty eyed but mostly because I really connected with the story and characters.

Granted, my heart has turned to ice in the time since then but I've never been able to take any other 'fighting for the survival of our world' kind of story as seriously. When it comes to that one particular direction they're just either not related or, if directly compared, always on the loosing end. But that's personal, so clearly a giant bias.

You and me buddy...perhaps tears freeze before they come out since we're scandinavian?.
I think it's more about the fact that I cried a lot as a kid, and now my body is struggling to make more, therefore saving them for "specially emotional occasions"

Also, may I ask what that thing close to paradise was?
My girlfriend's embrace counts to me as about as close to heaven (and thereby paradise) as I'll ever get ;) I went and visited her in USA x-mas 2008 and went back one of the first days in january. I found I fit in disturbingly well over there too...sigh v_v

I've definitely cried in Video Games before. Not ashamed to admit it, the only one I recall at the moment is Final Fantasy X but I know they've been others.
when Tidus disappeared and Yuna sent Auron?
honestly me too

It's possible, but it's gotta be a character you really like/can relate to

When Tippi and Bleck choose to risk there lives to close the void and vanish while doing so leaving you until the end of the credits to find out if they survived.

Well, the only time I ever cried was the end of Disk 1 of arguably the most popular game in arguably the most popular non-sports game franchise with a main character's sudden, powerful, and emotional death. Even though this character has been mentioned almost 100 times in this thread already (maybe more; I didn't count) and the scene hasn't been a spoiler in almost a decade now I still refuse to ruin it.

That's the ultimate goal of popular media in my eyes. I have only shed a tear (of sadness) for 1 video game, 2 songs, 0 books, and 1 movie (A Walk to Remember came close but didn't succeed) and I haven't done so in over 4 years. I am very much looking forward to the next time it happens (assuming it does happen again).

I've had at least one tear jerker while gaming... Don't remember what I was playing at the time though...

So true hahaha!

OT: Ive never cried due to a video game. But there are some scenes in video games that have produced a kind of emotional response in me, but normaly its just "Son of a *****! Now im really gunna kick your ass!"

A video game has never made me cry, except tears of rage after losing a particularly difficult battle for the umpteenth time.

Like many people the closest time was Aris' death scene in Final Fantasy 7. I think that was mostly due to it being the first real RPG I ever played.

The end of Crisis Core would be a close second because mostly because they did Zack much more justice and gave him a proper heroic death scene then they did with the hidden flashback sequence in FF7 where he just gets gunned down by a couple of Shinra peons.

As for all out balling my eyes out I don't think any game has gotten me to that point, and with the slow decline in story telling in games in the past few years I doubt there ever will be one that will trigger that kind of response in me.

At the end of Half-Life 2 Episode two, I don't remember if I cried but I certainly felt like shit.

I didn't actually cry at the ending; the battlecries just got me really pumped for the final battle with Irenicus. I did grin like a madman at Minsc's battlecry, though. No, the part of BGII that I cried at was in the first dungeon where you find Khalid's body. Jaheira's speech when you find it is just heartbreaking.

It did sting somewhat in my eyes at the end of Half-life 2: EP2, but I've yet to actually shed tears over any game or movie (that I remember at least).
