The end of Crisis Core: FFVII. I know some people didn't like the end, but god damn it, I thought it was the most touching thing I had ever seen.

Actually there were lots of moments in the game like that.
D*MN IT you beat me too it.

Yeah i dont really cry when i lose, but some video games made me cry, like crisis core.
I don't get why, between crisis core and ff7, Cloud completely forgets who Zack is
Yeah that made no sense. He seemed to remember zack when he rubbed his face against zacks chest at the end(it was not homosexual in anyway contrary to how it sounds like). It makes no sense how he would just start thinking he was zack.

Aand another thing, just to put out there, is that cloud the reall cloud or is he a clone for hojo? i played crisis core, the original, and dirge of cerberus but i still dont understand what cloud is
From what I understand, Cloud is always Cloud, he grew up with Tifa* in Nibelheim and was a guard for Zack. I don't think he's a clone, I think he lost his memory between Crisis Core and FF7 by some sort of trick on Sephiroths behalf.

*Why doesn't Tifa remember what happened in Nibelheim when Sephiroth destoyed it?
I think she was hiding it
I really need to play that game again, I don't know what the fudge is going on

When I was younger I cried sometimes from games. But that was more due to err... the game going phycially abusive on me. Like when I as a eight-year-old girl was trying to slap my poor Creature away from the dreaded Grendel which I knew would kill them as he had all my other Creatures?
And when I was 13, all the time being "pked" on the mmorpg Tibia. Then pillaged. I think that would still make me cry.

But other than that, no. The storyline of a game has never made me cry. I guess the (human) characters just never appeal to me as much as when I'm reading a book or such.

Well, sort of.

I've gotten to the point of my eyes turning red and sheding a few tears, but I don't think I've out right bawled though. The Metal Gear series and Final fantasy are both culprits

My memory's a little hazy but from what I remember

Cloud (with a little help from Sephiroth) had his memory's twisted with Zack's. When he met Tifa again in Midgar, she had noticed differences in Cloud. He knew things he shouldn't have, and didn't know things that he should. She decided to keep this under her hat until Sephiroth started to mess with his head and convince him that his memorys were not his own.
That's just what I remember though.

I think I have before. I have felt pure anger and hatred when Ghost got shot on MW2 I wanted to jump through the T.V. and strangle Shepard. And, in Uncharted 2 I thought Elena died and that made me pretty depressed. I think I almost cried on S.T.A.K.L.E.R. when a Bloodsucker first attacked me, I was holding S and firing as much as i possibly could, ya I had a shotgun with like no ammo and a pistol.

Cloud got confused because of the Mako poisoning and the trauma of the battle where Zack passes away, Zack tells him he is "his living legacy" and that he has to "live for the two of us". Cloud whos just fresh out of a coma and still suffering from the mako poisoning creates an amalgamated persona of himself and Zack.

Tifa did remember Cloud but thought that Cloud didnt not remember her, feeling vulnerable at this possibility she wonders was it really her Cloud since the last time she saw him he was in a burning reactor with a sword where his lungs should be. Thinking that Shinra has messed with his head she chooses not to tell him instead convincing him to join AVALANCHE so she can keep an eye on her childhood friend. If you replay the bar scene at the start of FF7 with the knowledge that Tifa knows Cloud it makes alot of sense.

Yeah, Oddly enough to the end of Links Awakening for the old game boy colour. Quite a few have teared me up since, though i cant really specify. The scene with Roach in MW2 choked me. I was just staring in shock and disbelief, partly due to the sheer dickery of he-who-shal-not-be-named and partly because defending that place and watching everyone else die around you then the final run was all for nothing... That was hard too!

Edit: Oh! The part with your Dad in fallout 3, when he gets killed. That got me big time, I was angry and wanted to kill every enclave bastard there. While I was busy fighting down tears.

It's all about the immersive abilities of game.
Usually there's a darker or more serious tone in that games that make people cry.

I, for example will admit to being a 20 year old that cried at the end of the PS1/Wii game:

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile

and its PS2 Sequel:

Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil

These games both had an initally kiddie tone, with the main character being a floppy eared kitten. But the fact that the entire plot of the story was foretold (that his sole reason for existance was to save a world in which he had no existance and like a genetic experiment, was only meant to serve the will of the holiest kingdom), really made me sympathize with him.

A kid. A CHILD. Lost his free will, and became the involuntary guardian of a world in which he has no place. His closest friend was the very same person who implanted false memories into his head. In the end the two had to part ways, but I think it would be best for people to look for the video and judge it based on its own merits:

It's all about Characterization. The game really tug at your heart strings if the character is someone we can relate to, or can be sympathized with.

Another example would be Silent Hill 2, but Yahtzee's already mentioned it's beautiful ending.

But I've spoken enough for now. So I guess I'll close off by saying one more element that makes players cry: unpredictability.

Ex. FFVII - Aeris' death
Ex. CoD4:MW - The "death" of the SS Commander (I dunno his name - and the nuke was inevitable)
Ex. CoD:MW2 - The backstabbing from General Shepherd
EX. Portal - Escape from Aperture Science
(No offense but, I don't cry over a cube... It's just an unsentient block of metal)

Saddest moments in my personal gaming, Repliku of Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

Yeah, they're misty-worthy.
