I seriously doubt any one of you could take on 3 on one. I got randomly attacked once, and defending a punch while someone else punches you from the side at the SAME EXACT TIME is impossible. Once that punch connects, the other gets an opening too. Then your screwed.

I don't think any of you can actually claim you can take on 2-3 people at once till you actually find yourself in that situation. This is not video game land
Actually some of us legitimately can claim that. I've been in such situations. I've been trained to fight for the past 9 years, and multiple times been put in a sparring match of 3v1 to even 7v1(not fun). Also a group of like 4-5(can't specifically remember which) tried to mug me a year ago and I took them all on, and won. Though unfortunately I broke my walking stick in the process.
Some can.
My 'record' is winning a 1 v 5 fight, but I felt the aftermath of that physically for at least 2 months. To be fair, I've also had my ass handed to me in a 1 v 4 (SURPRISE ************! KNEE TO THE RIBS - BLINDSIDE). 3 on 1 is harder on the mind than in it is on the body....Unless of course all 3 are trained scary people.
One of the guys I'm good friends is a bare knuckle boxer, and he won 1 v 6; but out of those 6, only 2 were trained. So he just beat those 2 first and effectively hunted the rest of them.

Let me preface this with the fact that my prior post already covered the probabilities and I'm not claiming to be Bruce Lee.

However, blocking multiple opponents is hard, not impossible. And if you're doing things right, you're keeping yourself out of that situation. Sometimes that's impossible, but hey, sometimes isn't all the time. Not to mention, groups are not likely to be that coordinated. This isn't a video game, man.

1v1 all escapists would win and how! we are brutally hardened battle warriors! adept at daring acts of combat and showman ship!.

Sarcasm aside, 1v1 unarmed i just dump tackle them to the ground you're then resting on top of them and there's not a great deal they can do to stop you wailing on their face.

Most martial arts i believe are about keeping someone at a distance, once your both on the ground all bets are off, and charging at someone with your shoulder at their theigh even if they try to kick you, your gonna knock them off balance again both on the floor all bets off.

It's why in most UFC you end up watching 2 men rolling around on the floor as once you get to that point it revolves around grapples and trying to get on top of your opponent to wail on them.

Any more than 1 and i would be fucked plain and simple, but i'm smart enough to avoid these situations and if anyone wants to mug me i'll hand them my wallet and be impressed if they get any money! then ask them to tell me how.

come at me bro!

I wish I had a gun so I could shoot people instead of not shooting people.
But seriously, using a firearm as personal protection just doesn't sit well with me.
Well if you're about to get jumped by 5 guys I think a gun would be justified don't you think? Or should I get beaten to a bloody pulp?

This is of course assuming I can't run away

And what happens if they pull out a gun in response last i checked 5 guns beat 1 and you all end up dead in hail of bullets and hellfire on a random street corner.

I'll just do that thing Angelina Jolie did in Wanted and curve the bullet and what not. BOOM 5 headshots

I probably wouldn't do too well unarmed but I have a large combat knife to give me the upper hand if I ever need to defend myself. I'm not too fond of fighting and will try and avoid it where possible but if I'm forced to, I'm not going to fight fair. I'm quite stealthy so that combined with the knife will hopefully make any prospective attackers think twice. Against five guys? Unless I had a gun, I'm completely screwed, I'd need a weapon to beat the average lone opponent, let alone more. I'm confident that anyone who breaks into my house while I'm around is in for a nightmare though.

I hope that is used metaphorically, or I'm very surprised you're able to post here.

OT: Hell naw. I'm a scrawny 18 year old kid who has never been in a fight before. I'm a normal infected zombie, in Left 4 Dead terms. I wouldn't even make it to smoker level.

Uh... kinda?

I'm large, solidly built, fairly strong and have had some rudimentary training.

However, I lack the experience and aggression to be able to confidently say I can defend myself.

Sure,as long as I can get a good kick in. My arms are pretty weak (I can only bench press around 150lbs) but my legs are solid steel death machines (I can leg press 500+lbs). On the defense side, I weigh 230lbs, and have pretty heavy bones, as well as an ungodly pain tolerance (side effect of Aspergers Syndrome), so even if someone were to hit me, it would barely effect me. Of course, I am still going to get a shotgun for home defense and a revolver or handgun for conceal carry if I get a job in politics since for some people, politics is serious business, yo.

On that note, I plan on learning a martial art using mostly my legs, like Taekwondo, Savant, or American Kickboxing. Me and my girlfriend have also decided that when we get married and have children, everyone in the family will learn a martial art of thier choice. If our children want to learn Karate, fine. If they want to learn Judo, fine. If they want to learn Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, HOLY SHIT! but fine.

I'm pretty sure we haven't figured out ball-kicking-over-IP technology yet. Or, if we have, why haven't I been made aware of this?

Or did you mean metaphorically about the threatening looks? Because, again, that would be a no. But it also doesn't really extend to the internet. People can call you mean names online, but that's about the worst of it. But when dealing with strangers, especially in places I am not comfortable to begin with, I've generally got them lined up for a boot to the junk until such time that I know they're not a threat. Not sure how that would in any way restrict my ability to post, though.

Five guys? It sort of depends on the situation. I certainly wouldn't "win"- the best I could hope for would be to get away and inflict enough injury to dissuade them from immediately coming after me, and I would undoubtedly get hurt in the process. In a non-hostile crowd against an uncoordinated group of enemies without serious training, I would probably have about even odds of pulling that off. Any of those variables changed, my chances would be pretty slim. I don't have a lot of illusions- I have a little bit of training, and it's more practically-oriented than some, but I'm not a badass.

what i mean by this thread is if you had to fight someone for whatever reason do you think you could stand a chance of beating them i do kickboxing and judo but i still feel if i was Surrounded by 5 guys i would get my ass handed too me so is there anything you guys do that would give you an advantage in that kind of Situation?

I have been in the "surrounded by 4-5 guys" situation quite a few times myself and i have a perfect record for getting out of it without it getting violent. dont run food runs, victims run.
Identify the Alpha this will be between you and him , and get in his face but do not get physical get him to back down and away and the situation is over. you are dealing with basic pack mentality
This might work for dogs, but it certainly doesn't work against people. People are not wild animals, and as soon as one realizes this is what you're doing, it's game over for you.

That said, there's a handy invention from about 600 years ago that's become streamlined over the past 200 years that tends to greatly reduce the amount of training to ensure you stand a fair chance if thrust into a life-or-death situation against another person.

Guns, I'm trained in hand to hand combat, I carry a few knives and if I'm surrounded by five guys I'm not going to be trying to pull any punches, every thing I do will be to kill or cripple. Worst case I will attempt a strategic retreat while making it abundantly clear that I'm a very bad target to choose. I'm not a victim and refuse to be.

I got into a lot of fights growing up, and I fended off someone who stabbed me, so I guess I'm adequate.

No formal training as of yet, so five guys would probably leave me as a pile of tenderized meat on the floor xD

strangely enough if i were to fight 5 on 1 i would probably be more likely to win than if it were 1 on 1, but yes i can handle myself

I was kicked out of my age groups karate class and promoted to the adult class at age 13 because my kicks were apparently dangerous. And they kind of were.

More importantly, I can run really fast and scream really loud. Besides a gun, that's the best self defense there is.
