I'm just curious about this. Because i have a neighbor that has a kid, i think she's 12 or so years old. Now this kid has a terrible temper. When she is pissed ( at least once a night) the entire appartment building can hear it. I do not know if this kid has any physical or mental illnesses. It make me wonder what i would do if i had a kid like that. Probably something terrible, this lady has the patience of an angel.

Anyways, i was wondering , i know you can give a baby up for adoption, and i know you can have a kid taken away from you by social services if you are an unfit parent. But can you give a kid away? Not to a stranger of course, but could you call up social services and be like " i can't do this anymore take him/her away, i renounced my parenting rights"?.

Also have you heard of anyone doing this.

In the UK at least, you can voluntarily put your child into care if you can't cope, and I'm pretty sure that's valid until the age of either 16 or 18 (I'd imagine 16, but I can't seem to find the information).

So basically: yes.

You're gonna have to specify which country you're living in. The law varies a lot from land to land and from sea to shining sea.

Aren't you the guy who hates kids and has a three year old son? I hope you aren't considering doing this yourself 0.o

To be honest Michael is right, technicalities like this are going to depend on the laws in your local area. I mean, there's nothing to stop you abandoning your kid at the nearest police station and refusing to take them back, but you could be held legally liable for doing so.

Yup, but he's 3. I was thinking more along the lines of 10-14 year olds . You know the age where having a parent literally give you away could scar you for life.

And i live in canada
