I'd love to see more if this in the future. Case 0 was only five bucks, and I got about 3-4 hours of fun gameplay that gave a good taste of what's to come in DR2. Of clourse, it might cost a little more to develop something like this seperately from the main game, but if they create something good, and if it sells like Case 0 did, then we all win in the end. Gotta give Capcom some props with taking an unproven route and winning out in the end.

It's going to be interesting to see how other developers use this approach.

So in other words, Capcom has started the trend of making demos cost money. Thank you so much.

Well, Telltale beat Capcom to it anyway. Valve hasn't managed to grasp the basic concepts of episodic content yet, so it's hard to say they beat anyone to it if they haven't done it properly themselves.

The price point sounds like a great deal for completely new content. Map packs are around ten dollars making this sort of DLC an attractive offering.

I think that if done well, such attempts could go well with advertising. No matter what, there will be a need to bring awareness to the general consumer.

While they did fall short though by excluding PS3 and PC users, at least it wasn't Activision or EA that decided a new fate for games in their distorted perception. We'd probably see a new gun or skin-change for ten! Does anyone know if the 360 exclusive status was because of Microsoft's wallet or Capcom just being silly?

so what DLC is different from a demo how? o_O

also forgot to mention its an advertisement that makes them money upfront XD
It's different because it contains a storyline and about 3 hours of gameplay that is not in the full game.

Demo = ripped from the game
DLC = new content
hope u realize that demos don't necessarily have to be part of the game. and pre-release DLC isnt new so much as it is gutted from the original game and sold separately <.< most notably Day1 DLC

In concept, most of it is gutted from the game yes, but I don't believe this one was, because the storyline would have fit clumsily into the full game, it took place years earlier, and had it's own build up, climax, and ending, it wouldn't have fit properly had it been in the full game, and that's why I believe that at least in this case, the content was extra and worth the price.

Not saying it wasnt worth it but an epilogue to a story should be part of the actual game. Now "Case West" seems more like an add-on. However, if everyone catches wind of the $$ Capcom is raking in by selling what amounts to a Demo, i would hate to see this as the norm.

on the other hand this isn't mandatory so whatever floats your boat right?

Sounds like it was a fair deal, so more might follow suit.
Managed to try it for a while at a friend's. It was a good thing I did, having never had the chance to play the first. After playing it, I'll try and pick it up for the PS3.
Though the fact it was Xbox only didn't seem too fair; if I hadn't tried it at a friend's, I would never bother with it.

I can see this system being used as a bait-n-switch system ala modern movie trailers (check out "The Last Airbender" for a recent example of this; the preview/trailer is much better than the actual movie, and done by a different company no less) but the benefits still outweigh the cons here.

I do not say this often for marketing gimmicks, but well-played Capcom.

epilogue? It took place 3 years BEFORE Dead Rising 2
