If anything Dr. Mario should not be in the game and merely be an Alt. Costume for Mario.

"Slower, heavier Mario" is hardly enough distinction for a new character, especially when it translates into "worse Mario". Its just like how people feel that Lucina and Chrom should've just been Alt. Skins for Marth, rather than making Lucina a separate, but shittier version of Marth.

Sakurai already said that Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina (where the heck are you getting Chrom from; he's not playable at all) weren't even going to be in the game at all. Is "No Slot" really better than "Clone Slot"? 'cause frankly, I'd rather them give us a free character than just be a costume. When always promised full Quality no matter how much Quantity, more Quantity should be better than less Quantity, at least from a mathological standpoint.

I was one of the people who believed that, too.

But see, there's a difference between a bonus slot and a wasted slot. And again, Sakurai had already explained this.

When Crapcom (or other "this company sucks here, but usually Crapcom") has spare time before game development, in the past you'd find them making On Disc DLC of content they'd already finished and decided to lock away. That's what Nintendo did with those 3 characters. Except instead of charging us for them, they left them in the game as is.

Developing entirely new characters from whole cloth would have taken too long by that point in game development, unless they delayed the game. But they didn't feel like just sitting around when they could plug in more content. So they kept adding in little things, such as those 3 clones. I don't see why people don't enjoy free gifts when the alternative is no gift at all, since the gift giver didn't have enough time to prepare an additional super huge gift without being late for the gift giving entirely.

I'd have loved for them to have developed more full characters. I bet they could have found a way to put in the Ice Climbers on 3DS if they had more time to work on it. Wolf-Link (with Midna on his back) would have been an exciting character. King K Rool deserves more than just a costume. Dixie Kong or Kranky could easily represent. The "Ridley's Too Big" excuse can screw itself. Krystal (with her Staff) had great potential for her own being. They could have had more F-Zero representation.

But do I think that the content we did receive reflects a proper amount of effort made into the game, and is worth the price I paid for it, clones and all? Absolutely.

Besides, Bayonetta is on her way now. And Snake probably didn't return because of Konami. They could have used most of his Brawl assets and put him in easily if they were allowed, I bet.

Kinda exactly how I feel about Oro. You start dragging in characters from Alpha and 3, I want back the one arm killer.

He doesn't appear in SF5 because by now in the lore he retired from fighting presumably.

That makes sense. The old tiger is getting a bit long in the tooth these days and he's learnt that revenge solves nothing.
