Capcom Releases I Am Street Fighter Documentary

Got a spare hour or so? Love Street Fighter? Here you are.

Capcom's incredibly successful Street Fighter franchise has inspired many wild stories over the last quarter century, and nobody knows this better than Capcom itself. Capcom has released an hour-long documentary with pretty much everything you'd ever care to know about the series, its history, how it was created, the characters, the sound effects ... anything you ever wanted to know, but were afraid you'd get punched in the face if you asked. Get a drink, sit down, get comfortable. You'll be here a while.

Street Fighter got its start way back in 1987, when you played as Ryu, the young but talented competitor in a martial arts tournament. The series awaits its Street Fighter V [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126413-Street-Fighter-Producer-Hopes-For-Further-Sequels], and Yoshinori Ono has said "personally, I don't want to stop Street Fighter's main numbered series at IV," but adding that "realistically speaking, developing a title for next-gen consoles requires a huge amount of staff members, and a large sum of money. The issue of money also applies to everyone else, as it'll be required to invest in a new console, game, and arcade stick."

So who was your favorite fighter? There's 25 years of history [http://www.streetfighter25.com/] here; plenty to choose from.

Just a few minutes into the documentary, but so far it is rather interesting!

Favorite fighter? Definitely Elena.

The moveset is great, she is fun and fluid to play. And she is just a great person! So happy and chipper, it just makes me feel warm inside when I play her.

I just can't understand why a studio, any studio, can't hammer together a decent movie. There's so much mythology built into the franchise and so many characters with unique personalities and back-stories. How are they still not getting it?

Great little documentary, though it feels a little disjointed with it's focus mixed between the impact of the game, the fighting game community and the actual development of the series. Either of those alone could have made for a hour plus doc on their own but squeezed into one doc like this doesn't totally work.

There is a decent movie.. actually, a pretty damn good one. The Street Fighter 2 anime is very good and well worth watching even if you're not a huge Street Fighter fan.

Jean Claude Van Damme is a god! I enjoyed that movie in a cheesy kind of way.

One day I might try to get into Street Fighter 4. I have it but really haven't played it much. I just couldn't get into it. I can only assume it's because I'm stuck in Street Fighter 2 mode. I played the holy living crap out of that game both at home and at the arcade. I really didn't get into fighting games once they went 3D. While the the new obviously isn't that, there's just too many other things going on that I missed out on and prefer the old methods. I guess I'll always be a dinosaur when it comes to this genre.
