Capcom To Ease Off On Outsourcing Games

Capcom intends to hire 1,000 more developers over the next decade.

Despite Capcom's insistence that collaboration with Western developers is important, the publisher's results have been mixed. Dead Rising 2 and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City did well - in fact, the latter sold 2.1 million copies despite a critical response that averaged somewhere between stifled laughter and outright sobbing [http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city] - but Bionic Commando and Dark Void both sank.

According to an investor conference held last week, the publisher is looking to up the quality of its titles by focusing on internal development. To that end, it plans to bring in another 1,000 workers over the next ten years to complement its already massive stable of 1,500 developers. Most of the new developers will be put to work on console titles, but the company also plans on expanding its mobile and online PC divisions.

Capcom is currently working with a number of Western developers on future projects. England-based developer, Ninja Theory, is currently working on a controversial installment in the Devil May Cry series, while Turning Point developer, Spark Unlimited, is hard at work on Lost Planet 3. Interesting-looking sci-fi sneak-in-and-force-them-to-commit-suicide-em-up, Remember Me, [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMyQlnnxXuk] is being developed by Paris-based developer, Dontnod.

Previously, Hideaki Itsuno, director of Devil May Cry 2, 3 and 4, said there was no game in the Capcom stable the company wouldn't consider developing in collaboration with a Western studio.

At this point, I don't think any Megaman Legends fans actually care who develops Megaman Legends 3 as long as someone does.

Well I'm glad someone on the escapist understands my pain. At this point i really just want a new megaman game. It would honestly be a welcome break. Hell im even for collections (im looking at you megaman network) to contribute to the series, JUST SOMETHING. Thats really all I want. My bestest buddy blue bomber to just have a true home again :(

Itsuno problem as long as Remember me is half as good as the trailers make it look.
...Remember that time when you always had a good pun?

I could turn that into an experiment by handing the development to a company that is just not suited to making a singleplayer TPS/RPG.

I wonder if Infinity Ward is doing anything interesting lately...

Willing to collaborate with an western developer huh? Like with DmC: Devil May Cry? Right, I remember how happy the fans were with that decision! (for the record, I am planning to play the new DmC)

OT: Capcom, that's all well and good but you seem to have accidentally left out how you plan to release Ace Attorney: Investigations 2 in the west...surely you plan to? Wouldn't want to be stabbed to death and die screaming upset fans now would we?
I'm pretty sure Capcom's official stance is "Fuck the fans, I want money." As if them giving DMC to a stupid that has publicly and frequently insulted and antagonized the fans and making Resident Evil in to a shitty Gears of War clone wasn't evidence enough.

Part of me likes to think this decision is the result of them getting final builds of their future western-developed releases and them being huge piles of garbage.

Also, enjoy DMC:Eurotrash. After playing Heavenly Sword and seeing Enslaved, I won't touch another Ninja Theory developed DMC wannabe. They've already demonstrated they can't make decent games in this genre. Them personally insulting me for liking the old DMC and making a Not-DMC game on a shittier engine and slapping all the old character names on it because they think you're a stupid, foamy mouthed fan-boy who will buy it based purely on name recognition doesn't help things.

You do know that Ace Attorney 5 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ace_Attorney_5] was announced back in Janurary right?

Its a safe bet that Svensson will fight to the death to get that game out of Japan.

So long as you keep on letting Canadians keep making Dead Rising, Capcom, I'm fine with whatever else you do.

Captcha: iama captcha ama. I believe captcha may be trying to speak. This is worrying.

I wonder if their executives wake up in the morning and look at themselves in the mirror, asking themselves what they've become.

It's all well and good that they're pumping out these press announcements (seemingly daily), but they need to shut up and start focusing on the games that built their fanbase over the years, not fretting about how hiring more developers.

If your output is marginal (at best) company-wide, you need to go back and make corrections and adjustments to your existing workforce, not double it in the hopes of making one or two ideas stick.

Preach the good word Grey! To hell with all this bs, Capcoms problem is that they have been frozen in time since they made the last megaman legends and will continue to fail until the curse is broken.

I was a Capcom can for the longest time. But they have just published mostly crap lately. They are completely removed from their consumer base. The only actual good game they have released recently was Dragons Dogma. Beyond that, all excuses aside, there has been a steady stream of crap. And they can blame the outsourcing all they want, in the end they OK'ed the project and let these terrible devs make games with their licenses. And they routinely ignore games that long time fans want really bad (Obviously a shot at Megaman Legends 3, but they have been ignoring Megaman for a long while after several complete shit games). I was so disappointed with Street Fighter X Tekken that I am done with their fighting games. I loved MVC3, but was mad when they just didn't allow a digital upgrade to the Ultimate Edition. That was ridiculous. Watch out, THQ's troubles stemmed from their massive outreaching to new properties and their neglect of their core properties. You are next if this shit keeps up.

probably a good idea; so far only ONE of their Western collabs (Dead Rising 2) was actually good. Everything else has just been one dud after another, with DmC looking to be another entry in that. The Japanese side of CAPCOM has a lot of talent, but they lack actual numbers (unlike, say, Nintendo who has enough people to develop all their franchises on a regular basis). Maybe if they get some new people they can stop trying to pander to the West by handing franchises over to hack developers

Dear Capcom,
Please release a Clover HD Collection (God Hand, Viewtiful Joe 1/2, and Okami) that's not shitty like like the SH Collection or 'meh' like the DMC Collection.

Sincerely,
PS2 Owners With Good Taste Everywhere.

PS: You owe us after cock teasing us with MegaMan Legends 3.

Nothing worse than publishers and developers sitting on the rights to much loved franchises.

Apparently they're not destroying people's dreams fast enough, so they need to bring on more of them...using the money they couldn't apparently waste on polishing what they had already.

A lot of studios have laid people off recently. The talent pool for them to do something like this is there. I'm just not sure how great it is to work for Capcom as I have no insider info on the workplace there.
