Castlevania Producer Bringing Bloodstained to PlayStation Vita

With four days left, the legendary Castlevania producer's new kickstarter campaign has collected more than seven times its original goal.

While game-to-film director Uwe Boll was busy cursing out fans and supporters in a video rant [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/141065-Uwe-Boll-Kickstarter-Rant] over his unfortunate Rampage 3 Kickstarter campaign's limp towards failure, video game industry giant Koji Igarashi's campaign was meeting - and surpassing - yet another of its stretch goals.

Igarashi, who produced more than a dozen Castlevania titles and worked as assistant director for the iconic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, launched the fundraiser [https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night/updates] for new title Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night with an original goal of $500,000.

"Iga here. Many years have passed, but it's finally time we meet again. With your help, I hope to create a new game built on some of the classic gaming principles my works are known for. Thank you for your support - I look forward to leading you in my army of the night," the campaign's page reads. "If funded, the game will be developed for PC/Mac/Linux, XBOX One, Playstation 4, Wii U, and PS Vita. For the first time on Kickstarter, backers will have the option to receive actual PC / XB1 / PS4 / Wii U / Vita retail copies."

As of the time of this posting, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has received more than $3.6 million. Stretch goals that have been met include two playable characters, Nightmare mode, local co-op, and most recently the availability of the title on PlayStation Vita.

Under "Risks and Challenges," Igarashi acknowledges that there may be instances where delays could occur. "the possibility exists that a man scarred by unfeeling, power-mad alchemists could summon a hell-castle filled with demons across the street from Inti Creates headquarters in Tokyo. IGA has as much experience handling that risk as any game designer on earth, but we estimate that it might set production back slightly (depending on whether or not he's allowed to backdash)."

The Kickstarter closes in four days, with additional stretch goals including orchestrated music, an online challenge mode, and three playable characters.

I immediatly contributed a couple days ago when it was mentioned here. I love Castlevania.

**Though my favorite was Castlevania was Simons Quest... Don't Judge me! ;) **

I'm so happy to see it going so well. I hope they manage to hit the third playable character.

At the risk of killing your buzz, it's concept art.
Fair enough. Still, it looks rather pretty, eh?
Considering most castlevania games are done with Pixel art we can probably conclude the concept art is what Iga intends for the actual art direction of the finished game to take.

Well, they've hit $3.7 million right now and with an extra $100,000 it has now hit its stretch goal for orchestrated tracks. Also, the latest update has revealed a very special collaborator and what is the first footage for the game taken offscreen:

Yes, Yoshitaka Amano, one of the most influential and important anime and game artists in the world, is going to be doing a special illustration for the game. It's incredibly fitting that the guy who does the illustrations for the Vampire Hunter D series (which is one of the earliest works of vampire fiction in Japan) finally does a game with Igarashi.

Uwe Boll: Crowdfunding is dead!

*looks at Bloodstained and Yooka-Laylee*

So does this mean Kickstarter is a zombie?

I'm not really a big Castlevania fan (I didn't play the NES/SNES ones when I was a kid, and I never finished SotN), but I enjoyed the ones on DS as well as most of the avalanche of games inspired by this man's work over the last few years. I was really hoping that it would hit Vita tier, the games always feel like they fit on a portable the best to me. I'm excited about this, I hope that it runs just as well on the Vita, I already know that the OLED screen could make it shine like Child of Light/Rayman/Etc.

It should be noted that Bloodstained is going to be 2.5D(3D models with 2D gameplay), so not pixel art this time around. Apparently it's much more costly to make all the sprite animations for characters, monster, etc. than to use 3D models. That said, Iga said that he's going for something along the lines of Guilty Gear Xrd in terms of presentation, and that game looks pretty much like a very smooth 2D game.

Oh, I missed this. Here's an early pre-alpha animation sample that got put up on the Kickstarter page. Most important, I think, is that Iga seems to be quite involved in directing this, so we shouldn't see a repeat of the Mighty No. 9 problems.

So you haven't played any of the GOOD ones then. XD
I have, but Simon's quest was the first I played when I was young so it's got a special place. My first SNES game was Super Castlevania.

Too bad 3DS isn't a stretch goal. Other than pc its the only console I currently have that works, and as I am Steam-free I'm probably SOL.

But if I could, I'd walk up to their HQ and have my minions march up and empty giant sacks of gold on their doorstep like the letters at the end of Miracle on 34th Street.

It's also going to be on GOG. You can even get a DRM free physical copy.

in this case it's both

The picture used is cropped from 1:15.
They cut out the game overlay and the monsters.
So it's consept art of gameplay, as strange as that sounds.

As it's going for that hand drawn style, it's not going to look too different regardless(if at all).

If it'll look as good as Guilt Gear does, then I'm in.
