Cat Covered in Charcoal

I left out a charcoal drawing out on my table and left to go get something to eat, when I came back my cat was sleeping all over it, and now he is covered in charcoal. Anyone have any advice for cleaning him because I tried using a slightly wet towel but he got scared by the water and he is now hiding. Also, would it be bad if he accidentally ingested some of it while he tries to groom himself?

I'm not an expert or anything, so don't take my word for anything, but it can't hurt to try and clean your cat. They may be scared, but the charcoal might not be good for it. I'd just say clean the cat ASAP, just to prevent any harm. If the water is scaring him, try using just a towel to get whatever off you can, or maybe try using a cat hair brush and brushing him all over. You could also try googling some ways to clean a cat in general. Either way, good luck, and I hope everything turns out okay :)

I agree with Aoper.

I'm not sure if the charcoal is toxic or not, but it's definitely not good. Even though your cat is scared, I would suggest putting it in the shower and gently (!) using lukewarm water, clean your cat. Whatever you do, do NOT use human shampoo or anything of the sorts on your cat as this could damage their skin and/or fur. You could however, use special cat shampoo. I'm pretty sure just some lukewarm water will do though. Your cat probably won't appreciate it, but I do think it's the best solution.

My cat fell into the dirtiest water once and I cleaned him up with some lukewarm water in the shower. He could've cleaned himself, but that would also have meant that my entire house would be covered in goo ;-) Turns out; he hated the slippery floor in the shower more than he hated the actual water.
