For the people who have never played an in-house Atlus jRPG... no, it is nothing like any other jRPG you'll ever play. Persona in particular had incredibly memorable characters free of that "single defining trait" syndrome most jRPG characters suffer from. And considering a lot of the key staff of the Persona games are on board with Catherine, I think that's enough for me to look into the game.
Then again, stylistically, the anime graphics and sound will probably turn off at least 50% of the population if it ever makes it Stateside. This is like the definition of a niche game. Even Japan doesn't produce very many horror survival games like this, even if ero games aren't exactly rare.
