CD Projekt Suspends They to Focus on Witcher 2

CD Projekt has revealed that They, the near-future FPS scheduled for release later this year, has been suspended so that the company can focus all its resources on the development of the sequel to The Witcher [http://www.amazon.com/Witcher-Enhanced-Pc/dp/B001AH8YSW/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1280177501&sr=1-1].

Set in the year 2012, They finds the city of London being hammered by terrorist attacks in the lead-up to the Olympic games. Things get worse, however, when alien robots invade and start causing real trouble. But then it turns out that the robots are actually being manipulated by something called "Phantoms." Sadly, in spite of the obvious awesomeness of the whole thing, the project has been put on the back burner, albeit for a very good cause.

"Unfortunately due to [the] tough economy we had to put They on hold, as we have decided to allocate all resources to the next Witcher game in production," CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwinski said in an interview with Metropolis [http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/01/28/interview-cd-projekts-co-founder-chats-about-gog-com-the-witc/] team [that was developing They] is working together with CD Projekt RED to make sure we deliver an outstanding Witcher experience to our fans. Having said that, we have by far not buried They, and we would really like to return to it."

"Witcher 2? Hmm. Are we working on such a game?" Iwinski joked about the game that hasn't yet actually been unveiled to the public. "It wasn't officially announced, but as the leaked video [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/94812-Witcher-2-Trailer-Surfaces-on-YouTube] on YouTube was seen by over 600k people, I can't even pretend it's a secret. The production is going really well and we should have quite a few important announcements this March. We are preparing a proper launch backed up with a lot of materials and we should be able to talk about our publishing partners, as well. The game should be absolutely amazing."

Thats fine with me, The Witcher is well worth it, loved the first one even though I had my doubts after watching Yahtzees review on it. Besides who wants to play a terminator/alien shooter based around the Olympics...

I would

Well, this is most excellent news. I can't wait for the Witcher 2. Of course, that They does sound rather interesting

Well darn, I hadn't actually heard of They until just now, so it's sort of a sucker punch to be instantly intrigued by something you found out about in the very announcement informing you they aren't working on it right now.

Eagerly anticipating The Witcher 2 though, the first one was a bloody masterpiece and CDProjekt's conduct in supporting their game post-release ought to be the bloody industry standard.

Heard that The Witcher was pretty good. I liked the trailer of it I found on Youtube, maybe now I'll go look up some more details...

I do want both games... but will be happy with The Witcher 2 for now, just hope they can finish They before the 2012 games...

I do like the idea of a game set in London, perhaps next we could have some games based "up north"?

I read about They and even saw the trailer to it ages ago, like at the beginning of last year. To tell the truth, it sort of slipped my mind, and I guess I assumed by default that it had been canned. Nice to see it's still being developed, even if it has been delayed for a bit. Apparently it's supposed to have some sort of nifty gun customisation tool or something like that.

Never played the original Witcher[/i[ before, but I guess I'll have to find some room in my ever expanding list of Games I Have To Play.

Will consoles finally get in on this game?
You will get the witcher when the console manufacturers are able to approve a game with nudity in it without a massive backlash. In other words, no.

First they canned the 360 version of Witcher, and now they can They. Although I didn't care too much if 360 got Witcher or not, and I certainly don't care about YET ANOTHER FPS, I'm a bit concerned for the financial health of CDProjekt.
