so i selected Samara as the fire squad leader and tali as the tech expert but apparently despite her looking like the a good choice having her as a leader leads to the death of the tech expert unfortuatly the restart mission load game starts at the squad selection screen with those 2 already locked in so is there anyway now to change the save or just rechose my squad leaders considering as ive spent ages making sure everyone is fully loyal and im trying to avoid deaths this run though

Nope, can't change it.
Garrus Miranda or Jacob are the best choices, but for now, you messed up.

Garrus/Miranda leaders
Tali/Legion tech
Jack/Samara/Morinth shield
Mordin as escort

Sorted.

Edit: But yeah, can you not reload from another, yet-earlier save?

Jesus Christ. Run-on sentence much, OP?

Look, who do you think would be the best choice to LEAD A SQUAD? The solo-operating Justicar whose only work with others consists of either killing them or following their orders? Or, perhaps, the ex-cop turned vigilante whose last work was LEADing A SQUAD to great effect aboard a space station filled with criminals?

Right, since I've not quite beaten you over the head with it enough, look at it this way: techies will have their moment. Tacticians will have their moment. Biotics will have their moment. Warriors will have their moment. You WILL know when it comes, and simply put whoever is absolutely focused on one of those aspects on that duty.

Oh, and send Mordin with the survivors. He'll die otherwise, no matter his loyalty.

The choices that won't result in death:
These options are only valid if loyal.
Tech expert: Tali or Legion.
Leader: Jacob, Garrus, or Miranda.
Biotic expert: Samara or Jack.
Escort: Any loyal party member, but there's this thing where the rest of the team has to hold a position, and some party members aren't as good for it as others. Mordin is the worse, so if you aren't using him, send him. Tali is second worse or something, then I think it's Jack. So long as they're loyal, the people they're escorting will survive.

You, unfortunatly, have no choice, but to restart from an earlier save. Sorry, but there isn't any other way and when you get to that part again, use Jacob, Garrus or Miranda.

The only members of your party you won't use for any of the obstacles (Not counting the escort and defend phases) are Thane, Grunt, Mordin and Zead. Thane, Grunt and Zead are great defenders so it helps to keep them alive, Mordin is best used for escorting the other members as long as he is loyal.

all 3 ship upgrades

Loyal with all of the characters.. if one of the characters loses loyalty and you can't get it back, use the other option and hope for the best

Tech: Tali/Legion
Squad Leader: Miranda/Garrus
Biotic: Jack/Samara
Squad Leader: Miranda/Garrus
Escort: Mordin unless you intend to use him in the last fight

Win.

As most people have said here, the only way to make it through this part is to pick Tali/Legion for the techie, and Garrus/Miranda/Jacob for the other group leader. The only way to change a bonehead move is to use an older save.

What confused me is the fact that Zaeed wasn't a viable choice for group leader. The job requirement was for someone with serious experience in being a leader. Maybe I'm crazy, but maybe the guy who CO-FOUNDED AND LEAD THE BLUE FRICKIN' SUNS would be a good choice for that.

Then the next decision, for the Secondary Fire squad. They needed someone tough who would be able to hold the line and take down some serious numbers. So, why can't I pick the Krogan? Granted, he's not much of a leader, but considering he'd be going through first, I cant really see anyone needing to much direction with him taking out everything in front of him.

Sorry, got a bit off topic there.
