It's silly, but I get why people do it.
It's easier to change a picture, or 'like' something on FB than ACTUALLY do SOMETHING.

Americans: Lazy, even when it comes to protesting.

Do you do this?
No. Never - that's the stupidest thing I've heard - changing your avatar for one thing or another. Pfft, why would I want to do it?
I feel like that's sarcasm and that your avatar means something but I don't know what...
Vault101 was recently permabanned. I thought you'd recognise the name. And the avatar, given several other people are also sporting it.
I was curious what happened to them. *sees the post* oh yeah, I reember that. I knew vault was in for some trouble, I didnt think they got banned for it.

OT: no not really. I thoguht to for the gay marriage thing but I just couldnt really be asked to. about the only time i change my avatar is december for pokemon month on facebook. my escapist avatar doesnt change, hasnt since I made it what you currently see I just like it way too much.

I've only just got around to setting an avatar on these forums and I've been posting sporadically for the last 2 years. I think. Might be longer, might be shorter...

I don't think I'll be changing it any time soon either, as I really like this one. Can't remember where I stole it from though.

I hadn't even realised people were changing their avatars for support of things. Other than the Vault101 memorials. Not quite sure how these people get such big followings on here anyway...

I'm not allowed to changed my avatar.

It says so right here in my Escapist contract.
What does happen if you change your avatar?... Is it like when Fappy changes his times a million?

OT: Um I would but I already support gay marriage because I find the current offering of a civil union belittling and insulting.

Also then there would be less Franky dance in the forums and we need more whimsy.

I haven't seen any of that. But I'm curious, what's the link between a big green equals sign and Life of Pi? Or rather, why is it that its makers require support? I don't object, I just know nothing about it, even after googling the movie.

On topic, I've occasionally thought about changing my forum avatar to express something, but I usually conclude those urges by donating to the relevant charities instead. I guess I could do both, but I have some illogical hang-ups about fashion-statements... I think altering one's appearance to say something, here or RL or anywhere, is quite... I don't know.

I just know I won't do it.
Since we're on the topic of forum avatars and since your avatar has a holy symbol, I've got a question for you: Your profile page has the union jack, I must ask: Why do you not wear your country's "new" flag? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1572168/The-new-face-of-Britain-Flag-poll-results.html
Look on and weep at the beauty of the new face of an empire!

Eheh, I've thought about it. I first saw that about six months ago and was tempted to switch. I may still, but I'll have to overcome this indescribable, irrational source of reluctance first. And the truth is that I'm quite attached to the classic.

Perhaps what I need is an occasion to justify it.
