Chat roulette and human sexuality

So... just had my first experiences with chat roulette, probably years after it has gone out of fashion. I also checked out some of the adult themed knockoffs as well, the ones that are pretty much only masturbation (not giving out links, you've got google). It really.... bothered me. I knew from the beginning that the majority of the people you connected with were going to be male, but why only male? I assure you I'm not trying to hook up with some random tween, girl, or woman on the service, but it got me wondering.

There are hacks on the service where people put up fake feeds of females on there, so other females won't immediately skip them over. Other cam sites are allegedly "live" feeds of women all over the world, but of course it ends up being a pay-to-watch porn service and not a genuinely random encounter. Meanwhile chat roulette and its adult knockoffs consist of men masturbating on camera for nothing - one after another after another after another...

It seems like the general message I've been getting from pop culture is that men and women experience sex and attraction in a more similar manner than previously thought or that women "want/need sex just as much." I know that's a straw man argument, but it's just the vibe I've been getting. But the second you see it in practice on the internet, women are in control. Females become porn producers and men are porn consumers. There are no girls dying to see some man live and in person, but there are guys who would pay money to interact with a girl. Not only that, but men are actively performing on camera for no money and for no one in particular. What's with that?

(Asking only out of pure ignorance. I'm not judging men or women negatively or positively.)

First off I am kind of confused as I have no clue what the hell chat roulette is but it sounds disturbing as hell.
Oh, you betcha. It's where you are randomly connected by webcam to another user who also has a webcam. You can't use it if you don't have a webcam. The idea is that you'll find strangers to chat with and if you get tired of someone, you can hit a button that will bring up the next stranger. There's both text and microphone chat. At its heyday, it attracted performance artists and connected people who would never otherwise have talked to each other. But quickly it devolved into dudes taking out their private parts. There are ways to get people blocked for 24 hours, but there are also ways around it, too.

I fiddled around with my guitar (not a euphemism) on there for a little bit because I had nothing better to offer. One girl watched for like 15 or 20 minutes until I shut the creepy thing program off. She was completely motionless, so I suspect a robot, still image, or hack.

Women just don´t want to be objectified. There is a long tradition of sexism by the male half for the last few thousand years. It´s the old story: Men are heroes when sleeping with lots of women, women are all whores when doing the same with men (Not my opinion in any way!). It´s deep in our subconscious!

I suspect it has to do with some fantasy men have of being female. Everyone has wanted to be the opposite sex at least once. I think for those men, its a deep abiding desire to be female (despite the fact they may be straight) and by performing on camera like they see so many women do, they get some kind of rise out of it, thinking that other people are getting off watching them get themselves off as they do to the porn stars.

That's a bit of a convoluted explanation, but I dont really know how else to say it.

Well probably because women are taught that to enjoy sexual things makes us bad/dirty/impure/whatever.
And because guys are taught to pursue women and women are taught to be pursued.

Maybe it's something like this.

Another example - I was on another video game website (ahem), one that often utilizes attractive women for their featured video content. You could join the long line of chorus of guys saying "She's so hot" and no one will notice or respond to you. I commented on one photo (unrelated to the "hot" chicks) that I thought one of the male staff members was good looking. That guy personally went out of his way to express appreciation at my compliment. Such a bizarre world in which we live.

Why would guys want to be objectified or appreciated for their looks, but women wouldn't? And if women don't, why do they often put so much effort into fashion and makeup? I don't get it. (One of the many, many things I don't understand.)
