Well, they'll certainly be tying the games together. I'm also not saying they aren't in the same universe, but for all we know, Portal could be taking place just after all of the scientists got killed when GLaDOS released her neurotoxin into the facility. Just a thought.
Actually that's how I interpret it, but what slightly worries me is how they'll tied both universes 100 years later. So far Portal 2 sounds great (especially as I love decayed locations maps) except that part because it will either be strange timeline-wise, either would predict how Half Life 2 will continue/end, and I can see troubles with both situations.

Bah anyway, I'm sure they'll figure something out :)
Well, what I'm saying is that maybe the original Portal is a hundred years BEFORE the events in Half-Life 2. Chell ends up a hundred years forward, in the same time period as Freeman is.

Again, just talking out of my ass and all, but that's what I'm assuming is gonna happen.

Hmm, evil artificial-intelligent super-computer that acted like the protagonists friend then tried to kill them who was seemingly defeated only to make a dramatic return in a sequel that is set many many years in the future which is the setting to a sequel to a much loved video game?

I can't wait to meet SHODAN GlaDOS in System Shock 2 Portal 2!

I'm still awaiting a spring heel explaination. Chell could of been anyone, and that's why she fit so well in the original game. She was simply just another test subject. It added to the atmospehere of the game, hell it pretty much is the atmosphere. The unknown/unexplained can be creepy. I'm not sure if i'm too on board with a character hellbent on some robo revenge.

I hope so. She looked pretty horrid in the first one. She's about the least attractive protagonist ever. I understand being a test subject and what not, but good grief, she could have taken a few minutes to at least make it look like she did the best with what she's got. She looked haggard and hungover and like she was always about to puke.
I kind of liked that about her. When you go though thousands of game protagonists who wouldn't look out of place on a cat walk (especially with women) it's refreshing to see a character who looks like she should; like shit. Like she hasn't had a decent meal or a bath in weeks.

OT: The 100 year jump is due either to cloning or most lightly cryogenic sleep. And I'm pretty sure Valve are going to keep the Half life connect even more minimal than in Portal, which I think is one of the reasons for the time jump. With Portal Valve were very cautious. They weren't sure this new IP was going to take off, so one of the methods they used to make it safe was to connect to an already existing and popular IP. What with the wild success Portal was they're now trying to disconnect it from Half Life and make it more of it's own world. What better way to do this than setting it centuries later?

Oh, sorry I misunderstood earlier.

So, if I recall correctly, HL2 happens 10 years after HL1, so that would place Portal [1] around 90 years before HL1, yet Aperture's technology looks equivalent if not more advanced than HL1 & 2, mmm. That would be tricky to make it work.

She looks pretty good for someone who just aged 100 years. What kind of diet is she taking? Seriously, it might be a better idea to scrap her for another character so that they don't have to make up some ridiculous way of explaining her longevity. I like her, she worked in Portal, but let's not get carried away with inane ideas for a sequel, Valve.

That wouldn't make any sense.

We know that the Black Mesa indecent took in the early 21st century. And Aperture Science was competing with Black Mesa and had technology that couldn't only be possible in a future sci fi world.

Plus Ratman had a calendar for 1980 something.

Valve don't want to connect Portal 2 to Half Life and it's episodes. Far from it, they're trying to disconnect them. They'll probably still be small references but you'll never see a head crab in Aperture Science.

EDIT: If anyones craving Portal 2 info:

I agree with your thoughts on this, and I do like the effect it creates, that she is in it more or less against her will, that it's been awhile since any kind of humanity was around, but I do feel she could have at least tried. She looks like she's always about to vomit, or that she just woke up from something unpleasant. There's no hope or inkling of confusion, no determination--just dumbfounded sickness. Even messed up there should be some sense of maintaining sense of self, and I don't get that with Chell. All I get is that she's given up, resigned to doing whatever Glados wants.

I'm still wondering how Chell will appear in Portal 2 considering it's 100 years later. If there was going to abe a make-over it would be to add some massive wrinkles.

Your all forgetting the new ending to Portal

"Thank you for assuming the party submission position"

*Chell is dragged away*

The girl was put back in the pod and cryogenicly frozen.

Well, I'd prefer a completely new setting, but... Hey Valve know what they're doing.

For some reason I've always felt that Gordon Freeman was characterized better than Chell. Although that could be because of Chell's limited amount of character interaction.

There was lots of speculation regarding the first Portal that the Chell you play as was just the latest in a long line of clones, all of whom had been unsuccessful in completing the hazard course (i.e. they died). So maybe the "100 years later" Chell is just another clone.

Not possible. Half-Life 2 took place a decade and change (common consensus is 17 years) after Half-Life 1. Half-Life 1 took place in the year 200X (probably 8). I don't think anyone was using computers and slide projectors in the year 1925.

As would befit someone who spent who knows how much time in a stasis pod, not even knowing what happened to her before that, and lacking a mirror, toiletries or anyone to bother prettying herself up for. Chell is no Lara Croft, but I think after a long shower and some attention from a hairbrush, she might be attractive.

Chell is an android (i thought) she can live for however long she wants. Even in the game glados mentions that "Android hell is a real place where you will go..."

The normal test was broken somehow so "it has been replaced with a live fire coarse designed for military androids"

The reminder was meant for military androids too.

I always thought she was Chinese because of her name and the name of the... loved one Glados mentions at one point, (creepiest part of the game if you ask me).

Well im all for the makeover. She looked like a man in disguise. But she*?* didn't really matter to me, it was just a model for my persona just like the half life games as well but i know almost for a fact that that's just me.
