Really?... Wow...
There's a SMALL different between a gun and a Wii-Zapper thingy. It's not like it could happen to anyone.

Yeah, she probably thought it was a Wii Remote, sure that must be it. *sarcasm* Of course that's all beside the point, the point being that some idiot left a loaded gun with the safety off out where a 3 year-old could get at it! Morons!

actually that's just the ad pic for trigger bloks, generally I leave the keys to mine on my keyring, which is always in my pocket or sitting on my night stand at night. Haha, and it appears my earlier post has gotten a few people to like me, first topic I wasn't called a retard in a pm.

She was 3.

Three year olds are idiots.

Hence the shooting of oneself.
I think the key words there are "three year old". Its pathetic calling one an idiot just like...Well, basically you dont get much lower than calling infants stupid.

Every time I hear a news story like this, I lose a little more faith in humanity as a whole.

I understand that it is a logical fallacy (hasty generalization to be exact), but it seems so common that I can't help but feel like the world is gradually losing its intelligence.

edit-

The mother who witnessed and did nothing and the step father who left a loaded and unsecured gun lying in reach of a three year old should both be convicted of negligent homicide. I actually would be happy if I heard they were executed, but I am aware that there is no legal precedent for that.

According to sales number...everyone in the world owns a Wii.
Except me, *insert usual rant about being a hardcore gamer* But yea, bummer about the little girl, hope the parents enjoy liveing with the guilt for the rest of their lives.

And if not... well, they're still going to rot in hell arn't they?

People have been hearing the dangers of leaving a gun in a house with a child since WWII (probably even before that). The parents shouldn't go blaming this on the Wii.

The title of the article should read, "Bad parenting causes bad parents to blame video games."

That's tragic. Although that's one stupid child, when I was three I knew what the hell a gun looked like and what it does. They should have at least had the safety on, and who the fuck leaves a gun out when they have children? And it happened when she was in the room no less! Bad parenting with videogames as the scapegoat. Does anyone else smell a Darwin Award coming up?

AHEM.
Read the link. Fox ITSELF isn't making these outrageous claims. Just the dumbass mother.

I was just pondering how interesting is that Fox is the one that runs with the story. I was also pondering how much truth is in the quote (as in how much of it was actually said/believed by the person who said it).
Fox published the story the AP put it together.

This is a story about how a couple of dumbfucks can screw an entire group of people over.

First off, i think the parents wanted to kill the kid. Im wondering what kind of gun it was and what kindof 3 year old would have the strength to pull the trigger while pointing it at herself.

Secondly the vast majority of gun owners properly store their guns. (locked cabinet/separate ammo cache/safety lock wither built in or built in with another lock in the trigger guard)

I read that you should unload a gun when you are not shooting with it or put the safety on

Yes, but them reporting it makes it seem like a valid story, and by them putting it out there, they are saying either that the mother is an idiot or that it was the Wii's fault.

I'm not usually the type to cry out "Won't someone please think of the children?" but with this, my first response is that gamers and gaming press (among others) should focus their indignation not on "look at how games are unjustly villified" but on the tragedy of having such careless parents. Are the parents being accused of criminal negligence and/or endangerment of a child? Shouldn't the news report care about those details?

How does a parent "failed to notice - or perhaps care - that her child was playing with the weapon"?
Don't be so naive. Do you honestly believe parents can be watching their kids 24/7?

(I don't mean specifically you, this was just the first post I saw when I wanted to point out people being naive.)
I understand that no one can watch their kids 24/7, but when there's a loaded weapon within reach of a 3-year old? I'd understand if the kid fell down the stairs or maybe swung a kitchen knife around, but a loaded gun?
The mom was IN the room
Who wants to bet the one that actually mistook it for the wiimote was the negligent mother?

BS, they shot the kid, and blamed it on negligence.
Call me dark minded but it sounds like they didn't want a kid anymore
Well, now this thread fuckin' depresses me. Now I'm questioning the story about someone skulking around outside the night before. Did the stepfather or mother just haul off and shoot her and claim it was an accident? :(

It was a Glock knockoff 380 semi-automatic. Once chambered it doesn't take a lot of force to pull the trigger. I can explain the precise reasons if you want, but the simple reason is just to improve accuracy.

The guy in question left the gun chambered. The idiocy here on their part blows my mind.[footnote]On their part, not on you. (I saw the post about vicious PMs; my sympathies.)[/footnote] Assuming it wasn't murder, which I'm no longer willing to rule out. :(

I would make the most dramatic facepalm imaginable, if this weren't dead serious. Honestly, how can anyone be that stupid? Chances are good most mentally challenged people would know that a toddler playing with a gun is a bloody stupid idea. I swear, we need some kind of test people have to pass before they're allowed children. I won't even get into the video game aspect of it, as I'm pleasantly surprised Fox News didn't post some sensationalist headline like "Nintendo Wiimote is actually gun that leads to death of child"--which I would not be remotely surprised if they did.

Denied!
Momma was in the room the kid was...and didn't notice her playing with the gun. At 3 the kids doesn't even know what a Wii remote really is. Heck they barely get the idea of ducky down.

Lock her up for neglect, as they should have had the gun put away, unloaded, and for god sake not where a 3 year old could get it and play with it long enough to flick off the safty in the SAME FREAKING ROOM THE MOM WAS IN.

No don't lock her up...death row for murder by neglect is fine.

Death row requires a premeditated murder. That said, I'm fine with charging her and her husband with negligent homicide.

I swear, you somehow edit ninjaed me while I was posting. I am in awe, sir.
