It does seem somewhat callous of a man to call all suicide attempts attention seeking... I think perhaps there's just a little more to serious attempts than attention.

Well at lest they've stopped people from being able to kill themselves using that bridge, now they can get on to not making them want to do it in the first place.

Communism is the very definition of failure!

At least they didn't destroy the bridge. That's the solution I can imagine would be argued by parents groups in western countries if it gained a reputation as the premier suicide spot in the country.

Reminds me of a campaign here to remove power poles and have all powerlines buried, because too many kids were wrapping their cars around the things. Of course, when asked, "Where are the street lights going to go?", all that was returned was a sea of dumb looks.

Sometimes? Yes. Note that he said "Everytime someone threatens to commit suicide to get media attention or sympathy." I would take from this that they don't believe all suicide attempts are for attention, just the ones that threaten to do so.

Plus, if you're going to commit suicide and you're not doing it for attention, there are far better ways to do so than jumping off a bridge. I hear guns work pretty well.

Communism is the very definition of failure!
Fixed for Liberty Prime.

Seeking attention via suicide is incrdibly moronic, you would be abe to bask in the glory. This guy has no idea what he's talknig about.
It is stupid, but so is suicide in general. And it's not an uncommmon concern. Some girl at my school threw herself in front of a train, and she didn't get any kind of memorial service at the school because they don't want to encourage that sort of behavior.

And, of course, "threatens to commit suicide" is a key phrase here.

LOL- I think that is great and creative. I also like the fact they are more concerned about traffic and complaints than the loss of human life.

Props. That's what I call being resourceful.

Somehow I feel like having toast with raspberry jam right now. ^^

Most people who attempt suicide ARE attention seekers. They don't REALLY want to kill themselves, they just want the attention it comes with. The people who DO kill themselves rarely do it publicly and are usually swift about it. A REAL suicidal person isn't that guy that stands on top of a bridge shouting "GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD! NOBODY LOVES ME!", it's the guy that smiles to everyone like nothing is wrong, then closes himself in his room with a 9mm and goes jackson pollock with his brains all over the wall.

People who are truly set to kill themselves don't want attention, don't want publicity, because they don't want to be helped anymore, they don't think anything can help them. These people don't hesitate. People with REAL suicidal tendencies have reached the very bottom of the abyss and no longer want help, because they honestly don't believe they can be helped. Those aren't that common. More often than not what you DO have are people who desperate at a specific time and consider suicide because of all the attention and sympathy it inevitably generates. These are the hesitant. The ones standing on top of the building shouting "I'LL JUMP!!". And you can be sure, they won't... They only think they want to, but they honestly know they don't want to because in their mind they can still be helped. That's why they want attention.

So yeah, you have no idea what you're "talknig" about.

@ topic: The irony is... Now diabetics can easily kill themselves by just licking the bridge to death....

...Sorry, had to.

If you can't/won't bother to fix the reason the people were jumping in the first place, that's a good way to shut them up. Go communism!

At least it's better than shooting people, which would be next on the commie "What to do if someone nags" FAQ. I just wonder why "cover everything in butter was no. 1?

So basically they don't care why the people are killing themselves and instead calling it a publicity stunt from people who obviously live in a caring country where they are listened to and...

Oh right.

I can't wait for the bugs to clear that butter up.

What? Seriously? That's an... interesting... way to do things. That would be interesting to watch, though.

I'd bring a bag of bagels, choose my jumping spot, keep applying butter on the bagels until the spot is unslippery, and then good day.
