A year is not long at all. We JUST did this. The rituals become so repetitive after the first fourteen cycles. How about once every three years?

Mostly terrible, terrible music. Did not know or forgot that Queen made a Christmas song. One of their worst ever.

Whenever I pick or pack dozens of gift cards at the warehouse, I think, This person really hates Christmas and can't admit it. "Here's your gift card. Buy yourself whatever you want with it and leave me alone. I can't figure out what you all want anymore."

Giving randomly seems nicer. It's not their birthday or Christmas, but you still want to give. Oh, can't do that because you'd have to outdo yourself for their approaching B-day or Christmas.

A blight on Paul’s catalog -

The problem with Christmas gifting is the obligation factor. The expectation sullies the joy once you’re an adult. They say Trix are for kids but I think it’s true of Christmas as well. Commercialism/consumerism diluted most of its meaning. How much of the stuff those elves slave away for every year will ultimately wind up in a landfill.

Christmas most certainly IS a children's holiday, and when I encounter adults who "get into the spirit" to excessive levels, I can't help but lose some respect for them. The same music, the same decorations, the same sales, the same flavors, the same tv specials, etc.; grow the fuck up.

I hate Christmas because it is fraudulent, expensive, and inconvenient, yet it's paraded and celebrated as a wonderful time, "the most wonderful time of the year," according to a song I heard once somewhere, /s.

Fraudulent: we credit a single day (well, a "'season" if you're one of those decorating and singing carols mid-October) as the "best" time to be thoughtful and appreciative. If I ever hear "but it's Christmas" again as an excuse for kindness or a response to my general lack of shared enthusiasm for this commercial holiday, I'm gonna fucking puke.

Expensive: yeah, let's wait for a singular day of the year to gift EVERYONE. Thank God my other expenses aren't due until after I've splurged for all the knickknacks and pleasantries... oh, wait.

Inconvenient: I've worked in retail for +25 years in every capacity from warehouse laborer to where I'm at now in a corporate capacity; this time of year is when my workload and stress are inevitably at their highest, so no; I'm not "excited," and no, I don't care to watch tree lighting ceremonies or 3-hour television specials where they roll out a bunch of celebrities and entertainers to rehash the same fucking songs they sing every goddamn year.

The ONLY thing I like about Christmas is this time, right now. Most of the hard work for me is done; shit is in the stores, and everyone is taking some much deserved time off. My job basically slows to a crawl between now and mid-January. You lot get excited over snow and peppermint hot cocoa? I get excited when every email I send returns an "out-of-office" response, but nobody wants to go caroling with me over that shit.

This Christmas season has been great so far. The company I work for has 5 local radio stations in-market. The studios are all here in the complex, all within earshot of one another provided the doors are open. Up until this year, we would have had at least 2 of our stations on 24/7 Christmas music for at least the last two weeks already. With new directors this year after some retirements, none have switched over yet. Normally I'm sick of Christmas music by Dec. 2nd... this year I have yet to even once hear that freaking Mariah Carey song. It's a Christmas miracle.

How's your Whamageddon going tho? That's where you try to avoid hearing Wham's Last Christmas as long as possible.

Pro tip from professional misery obstructionist: whenever I dislike something, I merely consume enough booze and drugs till it resembles something adjacent to fun! As long as respect for others is still upheld (that includes no passive-aggressive drunken mumbles) and limits are a known factor, you can turn that frown upside down! Let's all go to the looooobby, let's all go to the looooobby, let's all gooo to the looooobby...to have ourselves a shit faced time, woooooo!

Christmas just like any other holiday/birthday/anniversary/special day is just an excuse to get together and have a good time. If you didn't have such days, I feel like people would drift apart from each other. How many times do people say 'we should get together and do whatever' and it ends usually ends to not happening? Or like who actually cares about their birthday? But it's a perfect excuse to go so something with friends/family. All any holiday does is make it so people have a reserved time to do such things. It's not actually about the holiday, it's about reserving that time.

Really so far the only Christmas song I've heard is Jimmy Durante's Frosty, and that was just a clip because of an "on this day" segment. And it hardly counts because it is part of a soundtrack, not a Christmas album. No Wham, No Mariah, no Band-Aid... The latest "holiday song" I've heard in its entirety on radio? A Thanksgiving song, "Alice's Restaurant."

Where is this magical land of peace and sanity you inhabit, and what is the way to it?

You'll need a time machine to get there. Had to come in to fix something on Sunday, ran into 2 different program directors changing their logs over to 24/7 Christmas music. I counted on the log, the Mariah song plays 7 times Monday alone. The "oldies" station has Wham running 5 times Monday, and the Band-Aid Christmas song 6.

Could be worse, I guess. A couple years ago folks over here 'discovered' Feliz Navidad, and radio stations played it 2-3 times per hour.

My condolences. That song is so fucking annoying with its two lines of lyrics.

Another song I loathe to hear on the radio around Christmas time is Hallelujah as it's most definitely not a Christmas song, but dumb idiots play it because the word "hallelujah" is in it.
