So, instead of coming up with new ones, they decided to take the old ones and go with the new overstylized design to fill up the list of "new additions".

Is it just me or does that really scream "GameFreak ran out of ideas"?
This is Pokemon we are talking about. Their idea of design is "watch random items around you and add some eyes". They include some gems like:

Grimer and Voltorb. It's not like Gamefreak hasn't had a history of odd/lazy designs from the word go.

Nah. Not a fan. For all the 'no new ideas' type stuff that gets thrown around every time a new set of pokemon games comes out, this is a new low. It's literally not a new idea. It's just taking an existing beastie, and slapping a new type and colour onto it. I realise that's not 100% literal, but Vulpix/Ninetales are almost entirely white versions of their old selves. Whereas Sandshrew/Sandslash just look exactly like I'd expect having given an artist the brief 'Ice Sandshrew/Slash'. The only one that I can somewhat buy is the palm tree shift for Exeggutor, though the shift from Grass/Psychic to Grass/Dragon is weird and somewhat pointless imo.

It's not even 'evolution' across regions. That's not how evolution works. At all. If this was evolution, it wouldn't be a 'variant', it'd be a new species. Actually making an Ice pokemon with a fox aesthetic? Yeah, I could buy that as an evolution (still probably not, because a fire type in an icy environment would most likely just die, no reproduction, therefore no evolution, but still, it's closer). A white Vulpix that's still identified as a Vulpix? Just plain nope.

And does this mean that we won't be able to get the proper versions of these 'Alola' variant pokemon without trading from older games?

I suppose I am ok with the idea but...Exeggutor looks silly...and he already wasn't the coolest pokemon. Sandshrew...not sure if cute or silly, but Sandslash looks like a dumb Super Sonic OC...

I agree with you actually. If we're changing their types, they might as well be new pokemon, since this is actually lazy. When I saw Exeggutor, I thought it was just an appearance thing, but if type is changed, it well...isn't. I thought this was going to be like how Shellos looks different based on which "side" of Shinnoh its from, or how Burmy is different based on the materials it can wrap itself in.

You and others with the same opinion need to come up with new Pokemon to complain about. You aren't the first one to whine about Ice Cream and trash bag Pokemon. At least find others to complain about. By the way, the generation which those two come from have 156 Pokemon. If those two and their evolutions are the only bad ones (which would be five), then Gamefreak must be full of creative geniuses.

Need I remind you that they used to have an evolution consist of making one creature, into three. But they were likely part of your childhood, so they are infallible I guess...

That said, I can guarantee I will NEVER use Z-Moves. If I was running an online league, it'd be out the window.
That's basically like saying no Mega evolutions allowed.
I question that. Mega-Evolutions were also a new lease on life for Pokemon that had really fallen by the wayside like Pinsir, Houndoom and Mawile...and buffing fan-favorites like Charizard, Blaziken, Mewtwo and Gardevior.

Okay, maybe there will be a benefit to Z-Moves, but it seems like it's going to be a one-shot-per-match super-powerful attack, which they already did with Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn and Hydro Cannon, except not really because they were elemental Hyper Beams (not to be confused with Giga Impact, that didn't come around until Gen 4).

The difference is Hyper Beam and all its equivalents can actually be used multiple times, albeit at a steep cost. A Z-Move from the description can literally only be used once, and also will take up the hold item slot to do so, which means you're giving up a Focus Sash or whatever to get that once per fight attack.

First Litten, then Mimikyu, and now an ice Vulpix? It's like the Pokemon Company is deliberately trying to give me diabetes.

Ah, Pokemon. The only time a company can release a 5 minute video showcasing new designs, innovations and gameplay features, and be told they're "running out of ideas"

Oh, I didn't know that. In that case, I get that it's an attempt to break up using the same few items like the Life Orb, Assault Vest, Leftovers, Focus Sash, etc. I again just prefer the old classics. S'all I'll say.

Wha...what the hell is that Exeggutor, and how the hell did evolution push it to the point that it had to get higher than a rastafarian?

As if this wasn't making me invest my time/soul once both versions come out beforehand...

Other than that, talk about a shake-up on the whole "gym leader" dynamic, am I right? *taps mic* Right?

I am loving that Meteor Pokemon, it looks so cool, and the idea of regional variants is a really cool idea.

That Exeggutor looks really silly.
And normal exeggutor doesn't look silly? It's a dopey coconut tree.
It does, but the Alola form really cranks it to 11.
And it's a dragon. Gyarafuckingdos is apparently a water/flying type. But eggy palm tree is a fucking dragon. It's amazing.

But from what I hear, this isn't the first time we've seen long neck Exeggutor. It was apparently also featured in an old TCG set.

It actually looks better in that picture than in the game. Not being able to see it's feet and legs as well as the thicker neck just looks better. They could have made it appear planted, like a diglett, or turned it's legs into a bunch of roots, like a Carnivine, if they just had to have it mobile.
