At first, I was thinking of something like a statue.. but that doesn't speak (without some speaker system in it >.>' )
Sooo, my guess is a hardback book~

You hear it speak, for it has a hard tongue. But it cannot breathe, for it has not a lung. What is it?
I believe that the answer would be a shoe. Though I've heard a different version: "What has a tongue but never talks, and has no legs yet always walks?"

In regards to hearing it speak, take a couple of steps in a pair of shoes and listen to the sound your feet make when doing so.

If you break me, I will keep on working.
If you can touch me, then my work is finished.
If you lose me, you must find me with a ring soon after.
What am I?

Is it an inanimate object?

Btw I was not kidding when I replied Yahtzee as the solution for the original riddle, I really thought it was an obvious description of Zero Punctuation.

Heres mine

Twas whispered in Heaven, 'twas muttered in hell,
And echo caught faintly the sound as it fell;
On the confines of earth 'twas permitted to rest,
And in the depths of the ocean its presence confes'd;
'Twill be found in the sphere when 'tis riven asunder,
Be seen in the lightning and heard in the thunder;
'Twas allotted to man with his earliest breath,
Attends him at birth and awaits him at death,
Presides o'er his happiness, honor and health,
Is the prop of his house, and the end of his wealth.
In the heaps of the miser 'tis hoarded with care,
But is sure to be lost on the prodigal heir;
It begins every hope, every wish it must bound,
With the husbandman toils, and with monarchs is crowned;
Without it the soldier and seaman may roam,
But woe to the wretch who expels it from home!
In the whispers of conscience its voice will be found,
Nor e'er in the whirlwind of passion be drowned;
'Twill soften the heart; but though deaf be the ear,
It will make him acutely and instantly hear.
Set in shade, let it rest like a delicate flower;
Ah! Breathe on it softly, it dies in an hour.

I'm gonna take a wild stab - ignoring the last line 'cause that confused me - and say either money or fire.

As a side note, I assume two guesses aren't allowed? XP

Strangely, I am thinking the opposite of CounterAttack's answers: Water or Life. :S
