Cliff Bleszinski Twitter Teases Latest Project

I sure hope nothing too horrible happens to the dude with the ... actually, what is that thing? Some kind of rifle?

Cliff Bleszinski's hasn't been talking much, publicly, about his plans for the future since leaving Epic. Maybe he's lured by Ubisoft [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121698-Cliff-Bleszinski-May-Open-His-Own-Studio]. But one thing he's definitely been doing is working on this new project, and no, we don't know what it's all about. Not yet, anyway, but since Bleszinski's confident enough to put this out on Twitter, maybe more information will be revealed soon. For the moment it's just "something I've been working on," according to Bleszinski, so it could be pretty much anything, not necessarily a game. It's probably a game. Is it a game? Well, there's a dude with what could be a rifle. Does that make it a game?

"I have been going non-stop," said Bleszinski when he left Epic. "I literally grew up in this business, as Mike likes to say. And now that I'm grown up, it's time for a much needed break." That was about nine months ago, more or less. But back in January, when asked whether he wanted to start his own studio, Bleszinski said yes, and that he'd want to get back to the AAA side of the business eventually. "The type of game I want to build would not be this super-linear Gears or Uncharted type of campaign game," he said at the time. "It would be something that's much more free-flowing in regards to the number of systems that work together to create new and emergent gameplay." Possibly also set in a science fiction environment, if this shot is in any way related.

Whatever it is, it won't be much like Gears, the game Bleszinski described as a "negative stereotype [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/116285-Bleszinski-Gears-Became-a-Negative-Stereotype]." But as to what it will be, all we have for now is a picture.

Meh, I won't hold my breath on Cliff's next project based on that picture. Actually... I probably would never be that excited for a game that Cliffy B is working on. Good luck Cliff. I hope your project yields some kind of good results for the industry.

I am liking this, STALKER was great because of it as a lot of the action was based on the NPC's doing their own thing and stuff happening just because some guys came across some other guys that they didnt like.

Seeing as how that's pretty obviously an inflatable boat with a machine gun mounted on it in the foreground, I think it holds to reason to assume that's a rifle that helmet wearing guy is holding. Maybe it is just me, but I actually like the scenery of the grand canyon and similar places around and near the great basin desert.

CliffyB is working on a shooter? How unprecedented!

And a washed-out color palette to boot!

Colors are out. If we gamers wanted more colors than brown, dark brown and muddy, we'd stick to Diablo 3: Rainbows and Unicorns, thank you very much.

Brown? Check. Grey? Check. Guns? Check. You can really tell that he is pushing the boat out (no pun intended) for this one. The innovation is just too much to handle.

It won't. Bleszinski is a corporate shill-- always has been, always will be-- and anything that he does is going to have corporate interests in mind first and consumer satisfaction in mind second or(as is the case with Electronic Arts and Ubisoft) not at all. I'm well aware of how much I sound like a teenage prat, but megacorporations like the ones that birthed Cliff Bleszinski really are messing up this industry.

Now excuse me while I go kneel and prostrate myself outside the Square-Enix headquarters building.

Will it be a cover based shooter? Almost definitely. It already looks grey and brown. So it's going to be Gears of War with people of slightly more normal human proportions?

If you want to raise hype about your game, you shouldn't post a picture that looks utterly generic. Unless those rocks are falling upwards in which case it could be slightly interesting.

Oh look, there is a gun which results in shooting may be involved.

As long as it's a new thing I don't seem to mind that much.
