Yup, sounds good to me. It will outsell and the people who were bitching about it will be the first ones in line to buy one. Don't deny it.

I'm not getting a WiiU, the past few consoles/handhelds have been....eh for me. My Wii is collecting dust because the motion controls are pathetic (and hurting my wrist) and the games are even worse, my DSLite has been serving me fantastically (with no 3D so I don't reach for the aspirin or end up curled up on the floor with my stomach rolling) and my Gamecube gets more uses than my Wii anyway, partially due to the GameBoy Player I have.

Also, the lack of ability to have 2 or more wiiU controllers at the same time...yeah, still a problem for me.

"Cliffy B" needs to close his mouth. It isn't like Epic is ever going to develop anything for it so why does he care what other people think. Oh wait, he just likes the sound of his own voice. Let people think what they want. They don't need your mindless banter to help them.

It seems bizarre to anyone to single the Wii U out for building on older ideas; analog sticks have been around for years, and yet no one calls out the PS3 and the Xbox 360 for being just like the N64. New consoles have always built on the hardware that came before it, and the Wii U is no different.
Amen to that.

Been trying to say that for years, but it's unfortunate that many gamers see their chosen console as not being able to do any wrong.

... well, alright, fine. I'm bringing the "two gamecubes duct taped together" joke with me into the future. Now it will be FOUR gamecubes. But that's IT.
Give them some credit mate.

4 Gamecubes and an iPad duct taped together.
Curse my failing memory, you are right. Although maybe they attach the ipad with silly string or some other such?

The Iphone sold pretty well but is/was it actually a revolutionary piece of technology? No. The point I'm trying to make I that so long as the marketing goes well, it will sell well.
I know you're just taking the piss, right? I mean, sure, the iPhone maybe isn't a revolutionary piece of tech when it comes down to it, but on the other hand, it was the first device to do everything it does really, really well. There's a reason that the iPhone has consistently been the best selling smartphone. Touch controls, mp3 integration, speed, internet browsing, gaming, screen size, etc. etc.all packaged together make it what it is. Sure, maybe in individual categories one device or another may beat it out, but as an overall package the iPhone is, as of yet, unmatched.

Marketing definitely had a part to play, but when you compare iPhone users and their platform of choice (mac/pc) there's a lot more PC users with an iPhone than there are mac users with an android phone. The iPhone really was a combination of great tech in a great package supported by fantastic advertising.

No, I'm not an apple fanboy, but for my money an iPhone is the device I want. I've got a 3g and while I kind of feel like I want to switch to an android phone, I haven't seen one that will pull me away from getting a new iPhone. (part of the problem, admittedly, is my carrier's selection of smartphones. but what're you gonna do?)

Well, that's an insulting position to take. Here's a thought - maybe the people trashing it aren't the people buying it?
Highly doubtful.

The Wii shouldn't have sold nearly as well either if this was truth.

The only thing that will convince me to buy this piece of shit is if the next Star Wars Battlefront AND all future Tales series games come out as exclusives for it, otherwise Nintendo can keep walking until it falls off a cliff.

I'd like to think that selling well and customer satisfaction are 2 very separate things. I have a Wii in my house, but all it does is collect dust. Then again, I was still on good terms with Nintendo when I bought that thing.

Sorry Mr. B, you are generalizing a tad. There are plenty of folks who will trash it and not buy it...like me. I am not much into consoles as it is, hell the only reason I bought a PS3 was because I won $500 in Amazon gift card money (thank you kindly Escapist) so it was a free PS3, otherwise I would not hav a console to this day.

The WiiU is a giant gimmick that happens to come with a game system which is about 5 years behind the times.

I am going to cash in on the WiiU with the creation of the WiiU CS (Controller Support). This will in effect be a cheap ass camera tripod-like stand for the controller with two arm slings attached as well as a optometrist style head rest and an add on neck brace.

I don't see this one ever beating the Wii. I see it keeping the trend that 3DS set. Selling solid enough, but not what Nintendo wants. I think they had their chance to surprise consumers. And now consumers EXPECT something cooky and interesting. I doubt this will have the same WOW, IT'S SUCH A NEW IDEA! especially when the controller is basically an iPad with controls.
I see most people with a Wii, just keeping their Wii. Those casual gamers as we like to call them, who love the Wii's motion controls so much, aren't the people looking to upgrade their system every time something shiny and new comes out (this is coming from experience with my 55 year mother who enjoys casual games, as well as some games that wouldn't be considered casual, and the only reason she ever upgraded from a Windows 98 is because her computer literally broke down she also still regularly uses her VCR and only has a cell phone so she can keep time without a watch it's not even activated for calls).

I could be wrong, but that's really how I feel. We won't know until it comes out for certain.

Here we go again. People spouting the word gimmick like it still actually means something.

Nintendo are just known for innovation and we know the Wii U won't be a powerhouse on the level with the generation it's supposed to be. I guess that's why people were calling it out?

Me? Analogue controls and button sticks work fine. People call out Sony for literally not changing their controllers, but I like it, sleek, efficient and comfortable and a nice bridge between games. I imagine the 360 controllers wouldn't change much if there will be a standard next generation, now they've figured out not to make them giant bricks

While I don't appreciate his tone, I have to admit that I will at least try it. Like when it debuts, I'll probably fiddle around with it in a store and what game it will have on it (hopefully Zelda). If I don't like it, I won't buy it. If I do, I won't buy it at that moment because I will be a dirt poor college student with no means of paying for it. I'll probably mark it down on a wishlist of stuff I'll get in the future like the Xbox/Kinect Package. Hopefully the price will be in a reasonable range.

I agree with the people saying things like Nintendo IS good with innovation, Nintendo IS getting the most sales, and these innovations like motion sensing can be implemented into hardcore games and make them more fun, and I have another point to add.

I'm the most rare kind of gamer I know of. I own a shit-ton of and enjoy hardcore games, but I also have an open mind and can enjoy more casual/puzzle games as well. The setup I find is best for me is to have a PC and a Nintendo console. The reasoning behind this is simple: the XBox and PlayStation these days have practically the same catalog as the PC. Maybe there are a few exclusives between the two sides, but that doesn't mean jack. So, I want a console with types of games I can't find on the PC. Where do you turn to for that? NINTENDO. Games like No More Heroes, Nintendo's own games, and even PC games with new, amazing controls (AKA Call of Duty with motion sensing aiming) are a great addition to my PC collection. If I had an XBox, I'd only play it for Halo. If I had an PS3, I'd only play it for Metal Gear (though that would be worth the price IMO). With my Wii, I own at least 30 games, the like of which are not on any other system.

And, besides, I can't miss a Zelda game (not counting the remake on the 3DS which I don't care about).

Yeah... That would be the 3DS that Epic said the Unreal Engine wouldn't run on, yes...?

I'll probably treat it like I treated the Wii. When I got it, I knew that the 3rd party support would be sorely lacking. But's that's not what I bought it for for. I got a Wii for the 1st party games Nintendo delivers, most of which I think are amazing. My 360 takes care of the 3rd party for me. If Wii U provides a system that can give both of those things in its lifetime, then I'll be set. If not, I'll just stick with the great 1st party games and 3rd party on another platform.

I wonder how many people now think he's dumb, even though Epic makes the best dev kit out there. Also, Moviebob was right, what a shock.

I sure as hell won't buy it unless they can demonstrate a much stronger lineup of games than they did last time. I bought a Wii based on my positive experiences with all the fun and unusual games I played on the N64 and Gamecube, and it completely failed to deliver titles of a comparable quality in a volume sufficient to justify my purchase. I don't care about the stupid controller or how fast the hardware will date it, I want to see some really good third party support making some really interesting experiences I haven't seen a million times before. Since buying a Wii I've bought more than twice as many Gamecube games as I have Wii games (hell, the Dreamcast has more great games than the Wii), and I think that says something about what Nintendo's current direction has to offer me. I'm bored to death of their major franchises and I want to see something equivalent to Billy Hatcher, Eternal Darkness, Baten Kaitos, or any of the other games that made the Gamecube worth owning. Also, my favorite motion controls are still the occasional twitches in Folklore, which was an early PS3 game. Not because they were terribly clever or impressive, but because they weren't more annoying than the alternative. Nintendo really needs to step up their game when it comes to making those things work (even motion plus is only occasionally bearable).
