To be fair, the Wii DOES have a lot more shovel ware. But to say it has no good games is simply idiocy. Or Yahtzicy. Note that I said "unless...". Please refrain from getting defensive and name calling. You'd be surprised how many CoD fanboys hate the wii for no valid reason...Jabberwock King said:Now please, tell me what YOU consider to be gems in the pitiful muck ridden landscape that is the Wii's game library.
But... The remake made a version of OOT that didn't suck anymore!!!Jimi Bove said:And, besides, I can't miss a Zelda game (not counting the remake on the 3DS which I don't care about).
So, you've listed:Jabberwock King said:Now please, tell me what YOU consider to be gems in the pitiful muck ridden landscape that is the Wii's game library.
Of course it's sells are declining, most of the civilized world already owns one, it's not like people are going to start buying it again for the lulz.Dexter111 said:I have no idea what the "range" on those is as I never tried playing from another room not being able to see the input I make and all that but you do know that the WiiU's controller isn't just transmitting some button-presses wirelessly, but is getting its entire data rendered from the console so it can be displayed on its screen and that the amount of data and complexity is entirely different than that of transmitting a few button presses, right... right?666Chaos said:It will most likely be the same range as the wireless controllers on the wii, 360, and ps3. I am extremely sceptical of anybody who says that it will have less range then those.
The "WiiU" is playing catch-up in so far that they were forced to release a new consoles because of declining hardware and software sales (and profits accordingly) 2 years in a row: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2011/04/nintendo-wii2-at-e3-company-had-a-tough-year-in-2010.htmlDracoSuave said:So a console capable of new gaming experiences not capable with any existing console outside of a handheld is out of touch eh?
Hmmm. You must exist in a world without the Move and Kinect. Cause those things are capitalizing on the Wii.
Nintendo is right to move on to something new at this point... now that the competitors have seen the money its making, it's on to find new money by making new gaming experiences.
I don't see how anyone can claim Nintendo is copying Sony and Microsoft in this. They're not even playing catchup... they're doing their own thing. Oh, and the technology is cheaper too. Awesome.
And face it, the Wii was the Nickleback of consoles; sure everyone says they sucked, but SOMEONE was buying all those albums.
It might have had a "novelty value" as a console but it only lasted so long if it barely had any software to back it up... so they decided to push this out there so they also get all those "3rd party" titles...Battered by declining sales of its Wii video-game console, Nintendo on Monday announced it would introduce a new console in 2012. The announcement came as Nintendo posted double-digit declines in both sales and profit for its fiscal year ended March 31.
The Japanese game company said its revenue slumped 29% to just over one trillion yen, or roughly $12.4 billion, last year. Profit slid 66% to 77.6 billion yen, or $948 million. Nintendo had forecast for the year, issued last May, for sales of 1.4 trillion yen and net income of 200 billion yen.
It was the second year that Nintendo's earnings took a beating. During the previous fiscal year ended March 2010, sales were down 22% while profit fell 18%.
Losses due to the strong yen, which meant sales outside of Japan converted to fewer yen, accounted for $604 million of Nintendo's annual loss.
But the company's core sales of consoles and games also were to blame. After enjoying a massive wave of popularity, sales of the Wii fell 25% to just over 15 million units last year, compared with 20.5 million the prior year.
Problem is the next gen of the Xbox/PS3 (if rumors are to be believed): http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.298384-PlayStation-4-coming-sooner-than-thought-Xbox720-at-next-E3 are just around the corner and it will be yet again pinned into a corner with mostly "last gen" games running from it (retrospectively in 2 years from now).
Oh yeah, there are some nice games on wiiware. Take a look at my list. I omitted first party titles & wiiware and still managed to make a rather impressive list. If I were to include those two types of games, I'd still be typing...Jerram Fahey said:The gems you've yet to find are:
Hey now brown cow, the wii has plenty of non-casual games. Although if by "different audience" you mean something other than CoD & Battlefield's fandumbs... Then I concur.Hammeroj said:the Wii is targeting a different audience
There is nothing special about the Iphone, the device didn't even have some of the most basic features that are featured in a moblie phone such as MMS messages and voice recording. Hell, while I'm at it I will pick on the fact it had no bloody copy & paste!Zom-B said:I know you're just taking the piss, right? I mean, sure, the iPhone maybe isn't a revolutionary piece of tech when it comes down to it, but on the other hand, it was the first device to do everything it does really, really well. There's a reason that the iPhone has consistently been the best selling smartphone. Touch controls, mp3 integration, speed, internet browsing, gaming, screen size, etc. etc.all packaged together make it what it is. Sure, maybe in individual categories one device or another may beat it out, but as an overall package the iPhone is, as of yet, unmatched.
Marketing definitely had a part to play, but when you compare iPhone users and their platform of choice (mac/pc) there's a lot more PC users with an iPhone than there are mac users with an android phone. The iPhone really was a combination of great tech in a great package supported by fantastic advertising.
No, I'm not an apple fanboy, but for my money an iPhone is the device I want. I've got a 3g and while I kind of feel like I want to switch to an android phone, I haven't seen one that will pull me away from getting a new iPhone. (part of the problem, admittedly, is my carrier's selection of smartphones. but what're you gonna do?)
This makes me sad. Zumba Fitness? Really? This is the future of exercise? In front of your TV, by yourself? Man, when I was a kid, we ran around outside until our parents made us come inside because it was dark. And even then, we didn't want to come in because we were playing kick the can or hide n seek or something. These days, I cycle everywhere and play disc golf on weekends and plan to do some hiking this summer. It's just so weird to me that people choose video games to exercise instead of, you know, doing fun stuff outside.theultimateend said:One last fun one, for the software side:
