Trillandi, I'm glad to see someone else acknowledging Microsoft struggling to stay up. I hope to see them die as soon as possible when Macs begin to play all Steam games and Linux's WINE can finally game with no issues. I love Halo and Red Dead and have nothing against XBox players, but M$'s shitty coding, atrocious bare-minimum methods, and evil policies have been mucking up gaming, software development, and ideas of how computing should be since Windows was first released. Since I'm a computer nerd, you can see why I greatly despise them.

I'll buy one. I'll probably pair it with whatever sony is offering like I do now and just stick to first party titles on it for the most part.

Now please, tell me what YOU consider to be gems in the pitiful muck ridden landscape that is the Wii's game library.
To be fair, the Wii DOES have a lot more shovel ware. But to say it has no good games is simply idiocy. Or Yahtzicy. Note that I said "unless...". Please refrain from getting defensive and name calling. You'd be surprised how many CoD fanboys hate the wii for no valid reason...

Now, for the fun. I'm going to...

A) List fifteen quality wii games
B) That are third party.
C) Alphabetized for your leisure.

1. Dragonball: Revenge of King Piccolo. Fantastic beat 'em up that captures the comedic feel of the classic Dragonball wonderfully.
2. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core. Great fighting game from the guilty gear series. Need I say more?
3. The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return. Lightgun game, if those tickle your fancy.
4. Klonoa. Puzzle platformer from a fantastic series.
5. Little King's Story. Strategy game by xseed (Loved ys by the way). If you can get past a little cutesyness it's a fun play all round.
6. Madworld. Another beat 'em up. Of course I'll recommend a lot of these, love em.
7. Metal Slug Anthology. A collection of metal slug games, all of which are fantastic.
8. Monster Hunter 3 Tri. Action RPG, with a LOT of content and fantastic multiplayer.
9. Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars. Action/platformer. Avoid the prequel.
10. NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. Action/Adventure sequel to a fantastic sega saturn game. Cannot recommend it enough.
11. No More Heroes. 3D beat 'em up.
12. No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle ANOTHER fun beat 'em up.
13. Okami. If I gave any credibility to the concept of a "best game ever made" this would actually be a candidate.
14. Phantom Brave: We Meet Again. Tactical RPG, it would be another candidate for "best game ever made".
15. Red Steel 2. The first game was... questionable in quality at best. Awful at worse. This? A clear upgrade.

16. Rune Factory Frontier. JRPG meets harvest moon, a fun find.
17. Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love. Yes, we finally got a sakura wars game (tactical RPG). YAY!
18. Sam & Max: Season One. Not the world's best port, with some framrate & loading time problems but still a fantastic game. Point & click adventure.
19. Sam & Max: Season Two. Another point & Click adventure with some of the same problems.
20. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Not as good as symphonia on gamecube but still fun overall.

That's all I can think of off the bat. Like I said, if you can't find fun games it's your fault, not the system's.

And, besides, I can't miss a Zelda game (not counting the remake on the 3DS which I don't care about).
But... The remake made a version of OOT that didn't suck anymore!!!

So, you've listed:
Zelda
Smash Bros.
ToS
Soul Calibur

I've only played the first two. I'm not that big on RPGs, and I heard the SCL was a pile of garbage. The gems you've yet to find are:

Dokapon Kingdom - it's a PS2 port with no motion controls or online, but it's incredible - especially multiplayer. If "RPG board game" sounds enticing, go for it.
Sin and Punishment 2 - fun and frantic rail shooter
Castle of Shikigami 3 - arcade SHMUP
the Resident Evil shooters are awesome too, and House of the Dead to a lesser extent
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
Okami
Klonoa was fun, albeit short
Muramasa: The Demon Blade - INCREDIBLE!
No More Heroes 1 & 2 - they had flaws, but were generally good
Speed Racer - pretty bare bones, but if you like F-Zero you'll enjoy it
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Rune Factory Frontier

For WiiWare you've got:
BitTrip series (Runner is my fav)
Lost Winds series
Castlevania and Contra Rebirth

These are just off the top of my head. My hard drive's broken so I can't look through my collection ;-; Plus, these are only MY favourites - there's plenty of other critically acclaimed games that suit people of other tastes.

It will most likely be the same range as the wireless controllers on the wii, 360, and ps3. I am extremely sceptical of anybody who says that it will have less range then those.
I have no idea what the "range" on those is as I never tried playing from another room not being able to see the input I make and all that but you do know that the WiiU's controller isn't just transmitting some button-presses wirelessly, but is getting its entire data rendered from the console so it can be displayed on its screen and that the amount of data and complexity is entirely different than that of transmitting a few button presses, right... right?

So a console capable of new gaming experiences not capable with any existing console outside of a handheld is out of touch eh?

Hmmm. You must exist in a world without the Move and Kinect. Cause those things are capitalizing on the Wii.

Nintendo is right to move on to something new at this point... now that the competitors have seen the money its making, it's on to find new money by making new gaming experiences.

I don't see how anyone can claim Nintendo is copying Sony and Microsoft in this. They're not even playing catchup... they're doing their own thing. Oh, and the technology is cheaper too. Awesome.

And face it, the Wii was the Nickleback of consoles; sure everyone says they sucked, but SOMEONE was buying all those albums.
The "WiiU" is playing catch-up in so far that they were forced to release a new consoles because of declining hardware and software sales (and profits accordingly) 2 years in a row: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2011/04/nintendo-wii2-at-e3-company-had-a-tough-year-in-2010.html

Battered by declining sales of its Wii video-game console, Nintendo on Monday announced it would introduce a new console in 2012. The announcement came as Nintendo posted double-digit declines in both sales and profit for its fiscal year ended March 31.

The Japanese game company said its revenue slumped 29% to just over one trillion yen, or roughly $12.4 billion, last year. Profit slid 66% to 77.6 billion yen, or $948 million. Nintendo had forecast for the year, issued last May, for sales of 1.4 trillion yen and net income of 200 billion yen.

It was the second year that Nintendo's earnings took a beating. During the previous fiscal year ended March 2010, sales were down 22% while profit fell 18%.

Losses due to the strong yen, which meant sales outside of Japan converted to fewer yen, accounted for $604 million of Nintendo's annual loss.

But the company's core sales of consoles and games also were to blame. After enjoying a massive wave of popularity, sales of the Wii fell 25% to just over 15 million units last year, compared with 20.5 million the prior year.
It might have had a "novelty value" as a console but it only lasted so long if it barely had any software to back it up... so they decided to push this out there so they also get all those "3rd party" titles...
Problem is the next gen of the Xbox/PS3 (if rumors are to be believed): http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.298384-PlayStation-4-coming-sooner-than-thought-Xbox720-at-next-E3 are just around the corner and it will be yet again pinned into a corner with mostly "last gen" games running from it (retrospectively in 2 years from now).
Of course it's sells are declining, most of the civilized world already owns one, it's not like people are going to start buying it again for the lulz.

Oh yeah, there are some nice games on wiiware. Take a look at my list. I omitted first party titles & wiiware and still managed to make a rather impressive list. If I were to include those two types of games, I'd still be typing...

the Wii is targeting a different audience
Hey now brown cow, the wii has plenty of non-casual games. Although if by "different audience" you mean something other than CoD & Battlefield's fandumbs... Then I concur.

I know you're just taking the piss, right? I mean, sure, the iPhone maybe isn't a revolutionary piece of tech when it comes down to it, but on the other hand, it was the first device to do everything it does really, really well. There's a reason that the iPhone has consistently been the best selling smartphone. Touch controls, mp3 integration, speed, internet browsing, gaming, screen size, etc. etc.all packaged together make it what it is. Sure, maybe in individual categories one device or another may beat it out, but as an overall package the iPhone is, as of yet, unmatched.

Marketing definitely had a part to play, but when you compare iPhone users and their platform of choice (mac/pc) there's a lot more PC users with an iPhone than there are mac users with an android phone. The iPhone really was a combination of great tech in a great package supported by fantastic advertising.

No, I'm not an apple fanboy, but for my money an iPhone is the device I want. I've got a 3g and while I kind of feel like I want to switch to an android phone, I haven't seen one that will pull me away from getting a new iPhone. (part of the problem, admittedly, is my carrier's selection of smartphones. but what're you gonna do?)
There is nothing special about the Iphone, the device didn't even have some of the most basic features that are featured in a moblie phone such as MMS messages and voice recording. Hell, while I'm at it I will pick on the fact it had no bloody copy & paste!

Touch screen and MP3 integration are quite useless and only serves to demean what a moblie phone is, it had and still does show that touch screen technology is still very flawed and can make it very frustrating when it's the only input peripheral. Ever since after 2005, every device headed towards 3G and now heading towards 4G (3.9G).

Granted, the Iphone got better...several years later but nevertheless the flaws could've overcome much much sooner. The Iphone I would say, was the first moblie phone device to bring the technology to the masses, the incompetent people. I will pick-on an old issue with Apple; it's pretentious.

Sorry, CliffyB, your powers of clairvoyance have failed you, because I definitely won't be buying the Wii U. Even if the graphics are as good as 360 and PS3, guess what? I already own a 360 and a PS3, so why the hell do I need ANOTHER console that can run the same games? I only bought a PS3 for the exclusives, and I doubt the Wii U exclusives will be good enough to make me go out and buy one. Hell, I only have a Wii because my wife's parents got it for our daughter for Christmas last year.

Nope, wrong again Cliffy B. how does it feel to NEVER be right?

I won't be buying a Wii U for many reasons. One reason being that they are they only company that can get away with offering nothing but shit the past couple of years for the Wii, and they can treat their own fans like absolute shit by denying them games they want, and they completely failed at offering online services until the Wii's twilight years (not to mention the 3DS online store STILL sucks a fat one), and they can act as if it was never their goal to compete in the online market, and their fanboys STILL salivate at the thought of sucking their cocks. People here like to talk about how so many gamers are entitled pricks, but this is exactly how Nintendo is behaving, sustaining themselves with shovel-ware and acting like we are lucky to get anything at all.

Nope. Nintendo can take their new shovel-ware money printer and shove it. I wash my hands of this foul-smelling shit, and I hope others do too.

One last fun one, for the software side:

8 of the top 10 for this week are on Nintendo Hardware.
This makes me sad. Zumba Fitness? Really? This is the future of exercise? In front of your TV, by yourself? Man, when I was a kid, we ran around outside until our parents made us come inside because it was dark. And even then, we didn't want to come in because we were playing kick the can or hide n seek or something. These days, I cycle everywhere and play disc golf on weekends and plan to do some hiking this summer. It's just so weird to me that people choose video games to exercise instead of, you know, doing fun stuff outside.

Aside from that, this chart really shows how uncomfortable veteran gamers are with new titles, what with the port of an almost 15 year old game being #2 in sales. Pokemon is a given, seeing as Japan and a goodly portion of the globe seems to be rabid for anything Pokemon. A smattering of shallow Wii titles and one bona fide great game in Mario Kart Wii.

This chart is just bizarre.

I like how the examples of "old systems to base ideas off of" for the Wii and 3DS were two complete failures in Nintendo's past.

And isn't it a great marketing strategy to say, "Who cares how we thought it up? You idiots will buy it anyway."
