Club Nintendo Adds Over 100 Downloadble Games to Its Stars Catalog

Club Nintendo may be going out, but it's going out with one hell of a bang.

Earlier in the year, we reported on the somewhat-sad news that long-running Nintendo loyalty program, Club Nintendo, would be shutting down for good [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/139531-Nintendo-To-End-Club-Nintendo-Loyalty-Program] this year, to be replaced with a new program. At the time, Nintendo promised to add "dozens of downloadable games and a limited quantity of exclusive reward items" to the program's catalog, to give fans plenty of options to spend their excess coins on. Today Nintendo delivered on that promise in a big way, adding a whopping 117 games , and several new physical rewards to the program.

What's more, while the downloadable games that had been offered on the program in the past were mere random spatterings from the 3DS and Wii virtual console, this last big push includes full 3DS and Wii U titles, for as 600 coins. Some of the most notable titles included The Wonderful 101, Super Mario 3D Land and Kid Icarus: Uprising, all of which are fairly recent, full-priced titles.

As for the physical rewards, it's a slightly bigger selection of the usual "random items with Nintendo branding", such as a The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D Messenger Bag and a Retro Mario T-Shirt. As has always been and always will, Grill of with Ultra Hand is still standing strong among all the other offerings.

The downloadable titles are the real winners here, and are so incredibly varied and cheap that most users should be able to get rid of their remaining coins, and pick up some titles they don't have in the process. There's way too many to list here, so please go and check em out for yourself [https://club.nintendo.com/].

As a reminder March 31 is the last day for new Club Nintendo sign-ups and the last day for all members to earn new coins. Those coins must be spent by the end of the day on June 30, and any game download codes will need to be redeemed by July 31.

Oh man, even if I get Majora's Mask 3D, I don't have enough coins for the good stuff I was eyeing. Only 230 right now, so I guess that leaves me to get Link's Awakening for my 3DS.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, if half my coins didn't expire last year, I could've afforded that Majora's Mask bag. Damn it!

Already have an order placed for the Majora's Mask bag, now I just need 110 more coins to get the Retro Mario T-shirt. I hope these things get delivered soon. I'd love to have them for my family vacation this summer.

I want that legend of zelda messenger bag so bad but I'm so far from the needed coins T.T

Wish I had waited another month before spending any coins...

Well, it seems they're still playing the same shitty game. No SuperNes games for the 3DS. Regardless, the rewards before this promo are better than UK, America fuck yeah.

Dat Fierce Deity Link puzzle!!! Alright, I'm signing up right now.(In fact, I'm already trying to register my 3DS XL and Wii U. Too bad the sight is acting up.) It would be great if you could buy some coins (like a limit on the amount and how often, scram scalpers) to cover the last little bit, if your are short a few coins. I guess if I don't get enough coins, I can at least get Super Metroid (because I bought the cart ages ago and don't want to pay $8 again) and another game.

I also wonder if older Wii and DS games still count. I got codes going as far back as the original Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Anyone know some good (as in worth playing) games to grab to get some points?

It wouldn't be Australia without us getting shafted. Not expecting much :(

We got piggybacked onto the Australian one, so you're not alone on that one.

This is all very nice, but the article forgets to mention that this is, so far, US-only. Whether or not the rest of the world gets these goodies really remains to be seen. I hope we do, but... Frankly, I'm not holding my breath.

Doesn't matter. No games released beyond January 23rd are eligible for coins.

The Europe and Australia sites are going to remain open longer, and close later than the US version. You guys and your wacky stars.

Only 10 coins away from a 3DS game case... Yep... That REALLY puts my coins into perspective right there...

Then again, if I could just get another system as well as a [new] game released prior to January 23, I might have a change to snag the case and then some... I guess... *tries to increase his own optimism meter*

Edit (2/9/2015 6:09PM): Alright... Just registered my new Persona Q 3DS XL, thus allowing me to net that 3DS game case and one of the 3DS downloadable titles... *thinks* I'm stumped between choosing between Super Mario Land or Metroid 2 right now...
