commercialism escapist style

I come to the escapist today, watch a few of the zero puncuation, and realize i'm not logged in, after logging in I realize suddenly that the commercials are now on every single video I watch, and that there were NO commercials when I wasn't logged in...

has such things happened to other members?

and it gets damned old seeing the same commercial every vid, I understand that my lazy rear is here geting free entertainment and that the site needs to make money somehow, but why only show the adverts to those that signed up?

if i'm forced to watch commercials, why shouldn't the random fool of the great web who stumbles onto the site?
and if you're forcing me to watch ads, howabout mixing it up some? seeing the same ddo advert has me at wrist slitting level, or ignore the site till they fix or remove this crud level.

just a general rant, from a unimportant single member of the site.

Arent the ads in the vids about games and competions that are coming soon? I guess if they are, the memebers get the bonus of finding out about them while non memebers dont. Since they may actully intrest the escapist memebers because after all, we are all gamers.

They are sort of annoying.

And by that I mean I hate them with all my passion. Advertisements are the worst part of the internet, because I DO NOT WANT TO BUY WHAT YOU ARE SELLING EVER.

When something is advertised multiple times over the internet, I usually ignore it just to spite the ad, even if it is something I want.

I can see you point, however it's still advertising, why not advertise to the non-members? said advert of an escapist event might reel them into becoming a member.

on the flip side since adverts are annoying, why not only show the non escapist ads to non members and only escapist ads/events to members?

I guess my main complaint i the fact that i've seen the ddo advert 18 times in a row today, and it's wearing me mighty thin in the patience/understanding area. (especially since I already play that game)

At leat it's not the "clear network" advert from a few weeks ago I can almost quote that thing verbatim now...

Well...I hate advertisments in most forms. But I keep in mind that the adverts keep the Escapist going, so it's a neccesary Evil I'm quiet happy to endure.

let's see today watched 6 vids... 6 x 30= 180 seconds, three total minutes all of which were repeating the same thirty secons of the same advert for sabotuer.

As for turning my head, i guess i came here to be entertained, which it would seem my walls decidedly lack the ability to do.

i understand the need for the adverts, that was never a point of contention, the lack of variety of the adverts i guess is my point of contention, the repetivity of them.

funny thing about that... there was a convention that recently was near me, i didn't go... and didn't find out until after the fact, that the escapist had a booth there, if i had known what events they were going to be at, i might have been perhaps more inclined to go, but since THEY DIDN'T ADVERTISE IT i didn't know, so i didn't go. sure it might have been talked of in the forums... maybe on tiny little bar at the bottom of the screen or in a sidebar, easially passed over... but nothing in their own vids... nothing on the main page... nothing where anyone could really see it at... maybe a main page link to a list of events the escapist is attending would have been nice. as for the other adverts.. yes we're all gamers, but really how many times can we, even if we're excited about a game, as gamers, sit through the advert for it?

maybe it's because i live in the states, where i see more advertising than i see realalistic education reform. if i have to stare at it at least don't repeat it too much, even the television commercials don't do that... often.
