those are the most un inspired questions ever id expect them from like a 5 year old... -_- you had the chance to talk to a war hero and you ask "What was the last book you read, and was it any good?" for real...
How is he a war hero exactly?

The guy is a person, not just a soldier.

I'm pretty sure he'd like to asked questions about the things he likes, not how many dudes he's killed.
whole premise is hes a soldier n the questioned asked cud be directed to anyone n who cares how many people hes killed i dnt n never suggested that so dnt put words in my mouth thx
Well what would you have asked, hmm?
i wouldnt have asked him anything because being a soldier has no bearing on games so i dnt see the relation to it only that he reads this site
So what were you complaining about then?

that the questions were generic and not thought out
So what's 'being a war hero' got to do with anything?

You claim the questions are uninspired in regards to Phoenix's military background, but then you go on to say it's irrelevant because this is a gaming site.

Which is it?

She did in fact ask him questions about games and never asked him anything regarding his military background other than, "Tell us about your job."

I don't quite understand what you are complaining about.

you could have asked the same questions to anyone else and they would have been just as pointless... the whole premise of the thread was on him being a gamer n being a soldier yet the questions never related the two together like his views on games like call of duty and other fps's that deal with what he does or anything like that the entire thread was pointless because it was basically "heres a guy on escapist who is a soldier as well" and then asks questions that didnt relate to any of those things or at least questions that were mundane

Well I think you may be missing the point of what these spotlights are for. Look back at the previous two for reference. Basically they are just little features released periodically to talk about a unique individual in the community. It's not really meant to have some overarching theme or thesis. Just a few tidbits of info that gives us a glimpse into the life of the spotlighted person. The questions served that purpose imo.

my point is the questions could have been better with virtually no more effort

People very often make the mistake of hating soldiers who are sent to places, when the orders originate from career politicians who have never even held a weapon making the calls. "Old men start wars but it is the young that have to fight and die" and all that. This spotlight is a grand example of how regular people, gamers at that, exist in the soldiering business. People who have chosen the career of soldiering can't just "quit" without consequences if orders for being shipped out come in. Luckily I haven't read anything horribly clichéd anti-military in this thread yet. But just as a word of warning to people who might want to post; as the old saying goes:

Don't hate the player - hate the game.

With that said, an excellent spotlight for a good man. Family men still going out and doing the good work is very admirable. I'm a lowly 21 myself and don't have a relationship going, or any interest in starting one. All I've wanted since my teenage years is to serve in the military, but with the financial situation the Finnish Defence Forces are cutting back very heavily in the coming couple of years, so getting my contract renewed is gonna be a pain.

Maybe my next application for international ops will go through. Who knows, might bump into you if you visit Mazar-i-Sharif in the next year! Good luck out there, and don't get shot. +2000 US servicemen down is enough, that number doesn't have to rise any higher.

Please? Also I'd love a "Wish you were here" card if you got any. Okay now I'm just joking.

Signed, a lowly Sergeant of the FDF. ;)
