Possession of child sexual abuse images is, and should remain, very illegal.
Also, despite what some of the MAPs on social media say, pedophilia is not a sexual orientation. It is a mental disorder. I hope that those who are afflicted with it can be trained not to offend.

tl;dr of this TEDx talk is: "Stop stigmatizing pedophiles, it only drives them underground and causes them to molest children. If you stop, they can get the help they need to control their urges and not do anything illegal"

Actual cp should remain illegal with the very specific exception if existing images can be used to help treat sex offenders and then it should only be existing images and only with the victims permission. Drawn images are in a weird area, if they help reduce instances of molestation then whatever, if they lead to increased instances of molestation then they should be banned, if neutral then... whatever.

I kind of take the point that there are paedophiles aware that having sex with minors is wrong and who try very hard not to, who can be supported and helped. But frankly, a worrying number of them are devious, predatory and unapologetic about it, and I don't care how much you've been taught to empathise with people in your medical degree, they're horrible people and you aren't going to fix them.

I've seen that before, I actually think her argument is absolutely fantastic and we should provide therapy and services in order to prevent violence, however due to the way Pedophilia is perceived in the media I don't think current society is well prepared to deal with it at the moment, I think in order for us to progress in this field we need to improve how we handle mental illness in general, at the moment it gets either demonised or fetishised by the media neither of which are particularly helpful in dealing with these issues.
But yeah, I basically agree with her argument, that being said I do understand why they get the amount of hate they do, unfortunately a lot of them rather than accepting that it is a problem that they need to treat, instead try to normalise it and try to convince people that it's OK, with arguments such as trans-age and other bullshit and many other insidious arguments such as "Age of consent is a social construct" and "It used to be fine to marry kids in the medieval age" which kinda makes them really hard to sympathise with, Trans-Age for example are just taking advantage of the zeitgeist of a completely different social movement that has nothing to do with this in order to pass off as legitimate.
But yeah, basically while I agree with her points, I think it's just going to be very hard to get rid of the stigma, I personally find it extremely hard to get over and I agree with her.

But CP depicting rl minors should be destroyed as soon as it doesn't need to serve as an evidence in criminal cases.
I don't consider CP anything other than just a particular variation of a snuff film.
EDIT: Even considering "victim's consent" i still find it skeevy at best, considering many abusers were once victims themselves.

That's my point, no new stuff is allow, but if the material is there and can be used for good, I think the possibility for good use should be there, with consent. That is of course if good use is proven and you couldn't get similar or even somewhat similar results for drawn work. Ultimately I would prefer it be destroyed unless it can be used in therapy to reduce molestation.
You probably can’t without asking and that had its perils.
The solution is to just not with 18 years old, in case they are 17. With the caveat that if you are near those ages, its more acceptable. 30 years old trying to hunt down fresh meat can just not be a thing.
