Controversy in Brighton: Mark Rein Talks

While delivering a keynote-address at the Develop Conference in England, Epic?s VP drew a number of responses from the audience. ?You are a dinosaur, you are wrong!? ?Your brain is locked!?

Rein has never really had my respect. His point of view is always from the conglomerate criminally insane stance. I'd rather listen to just about anyone talk about Games and gaming tech, the reason? He may have an insiders view, but he has an insiders philosophy as well. It's just like in politics, those people who are deeper into the lobbyists pockets are the ones that we can trust the least.

I think his speak of the WiiMote really made me just tune him out, there will be gimmicky games in any system. It isn't about the low bar that some people set, it's about the high bar some people aim for. We could list a dozen low brow games for any of the systems Epic has created for.

Naturally you can't approach episodic content with monolithic development priorities and expectations.

Yet, somehow, television works out just fine.
