So working on a cosplay project for Manchester MCM in July this year but I'm looking for something to help bring the cosplay together and was wondering if anyone here could help me out.

I've got a gas mask that I'll be using as part of the costume (after I stick more tubes all over it), but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me a way to make my voice sound robotic and hopefully project it from some small speakers so I don't just sound like TF2's Pyro with the gas mask on. Preferably on the cheap.

I've been looking at cheap voice changers on eBay and the like, but I'm not sure if they'll be loud enough to be heard at a busy convention and/or outside the gas mask.

Maybe go to the cosplay board on 4chan? There's always a help thread.

I see a lot of craft foam and PVC in your future. I don't know shit about electronics so I can't help with the voice synthesizer. I'm curious how a gas mask is going to work since his face is exposed?

Given how ridiculously bulky that cosplay looks in my headm, and given it's going to be Summer, I can suggest making the cloak out of layered cotton otherwise you might die.

You could use lining paper for the very long scroll, but I reckon it'll get annoying to carry around.

Strawberry laces would be good for that long red tube coming out of his mouth.

I can only suggest some sort of wasting disease to get the knobbly fingers right.

Can't you just break a megaphone down? They have volume controls and voice modulation. Just implant the talking end into the mask, and run some wires down to a vox box on the chest somewhere to project your voice.

I'm not making that one specifically, just a general Tech Priest in general.

But yeah, a bunch of craft foam to go at the moment. I've got 2 months till the convention but I'm hoping even after I've got a basic costume done to a satisfactory level, I'll be able to keep adding things (just like a true Tech-Priest would), so I'm only aiming for basic at the moment. If I can't set up some kind of voice modulation thing before July, whether due to cost or practicality or whatever, then I'll just have that as a goal for next time.

I don't go on 4chan, but I'm asking a bunch of places I occasionally frequent, quite a few of my old customers are really good cosplayers so I'll be asking them for suggestions.

Thats one thing I'm thinking. The gas mask I've got is an old style one with a tube that connects to the filter, I'm planning on having it come out of the hood and down into the robe through the chest, if need be it can also carry a wire from a mic in the mask to a speaker system.

Make sure there's breathing room. Mechanicus priest is an awesome cosplay, with robes and a rubber breathing mask will be boiling hot.

You mean you aren't going to walk around with tubes and wires hanging out of your mouth the whole day? Lame!
I was going to suggest attaching them to something to bite down on so it would be bearable. But if you aren't even going to try then all I have to suggest is orange traffic cones.

I am not sure this would work since I have never used a voice changer app but what if you downloaded a voice app to your phone then used speakers instead of earbuds? maybe used a splitter with speakers and mic plugged into it then run that to phone?
something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Splitter-Earphone-Headset-Compatible/dp/B00LM0ZGK6/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527926589&sr=1-3&keywords=3.5mm+jack+splitter
then plug mic into one speaker into other run it to phone. Maybe ask one of those guys always playing with voice changers which would work best for you, I don't know where to begin on those but I am sure one of those guys who like to sound like donald duck do.

I looked up to seewhat I could find on it I found this:
I used to use the Megaphone app with my iPhone wired to a small battery-powered Lifetrons speaker. It was a very convenient way to amplify my voice perfectly when leading tours.

Though I am not sure if you will be able to find an amplified speaker that will be loud enough to hear in a noisy crowd on the cheap.
