Let's be fair though: They did a really good job on him. I mean, really. That looks just like the guy.
They did a great job on capturing his look - that's definitely true. And if they had confined his likeness to being used with the two Nirvana songs, I don't think anyone would really be complaining. But....

I think you can see why this might be something fans consider disrespectful.

Holy Fuck. I never saw that......wow.

Ok Courtney, I release you from your leash, go get those fuckers.

"Indeed, securing the proper approvals was no small feat. Not only did Cobain?s widow Courtney Love have to sign off on behalf of the estate, so did former drummer Dave Grohl and Primary Wave Publishing, which administers the Nirvana catalog. 'There?s a lot of moving parts to something like this,' Riley explains. 'But it was about timing, not an issue of resistance. We almost did it for World Tour, but we couldn?t get it together. Then after three years of working with the different parties, it was like the perfect storm.'?

Wow, she is completely nuts. That article goes on to say that she even helped pick out his clothes and hair style in the game.

Shit I was just about to say that. Quoted for ultra mega truth.

I can definitely see your point in that, but by the same token, we're dealing with a game that pretty much creates the fantasy of being some manner of guitarist. In that fantasy world, Kurt may be alive and well, and singing other people's music.
...Oh my.

Courtney Love can go suck it for all I care, but... man. This is bad. Like, really bad. Worse than Hendrix even.

Rockband's covering of the Beatles was done in a manner to prevent EXACTLY what we just saw on the video. They only sing their own songs, and look damn classy doing it.

They certainly don't play with a midgit and a skeleton while pelvic thrusting.

I predict there will be hundreds more videos like this with even more inappropriate songs by the end of the week. I mean it doesn't seem that hard you just record yourself playing GH5 with Kurt and pick an innappropriate song from the playlist. Hell even if you were lazy all you would have to do is take someone elses Kurt GH5 footage and replace the audio with any song you wanted.

Actually that looks like an X-Box Live avatar playing with the band not a midget.

Love's a money-grubbing psycho, that's all there is to it.

Americans like to solve everything with lawsuits is also what I take away from this.

If this leads to the eventual destruction of Activision's President and his replacement with one that actually likes and plays games, I'm on her side.

It's a good thing I don't care about Kurt Cobain or Guitar Hero or I might be in severe danger of giving a damn.

For those of you who are complaining that Courtney Love is somehow wrong may I point out you need to read Stolen Pixels more!

She's suing Activision. This may be better than "Celebrity Death Match", especially if it turns into an honest to goodness pissing match. Have you ever seen Courtney pee on a porch? I have!

Why are people holding Kurt up as something sacred? He was just a musician who had issues. He's dead and effectively a brand now, if they bought the rights he could be selling McDonalds tomorrow.

Most of the fans who piss and whine about it were probably around 6 years old when Kurt died.

Its not like they have his image taking part in animal porn. Hes performing music, much as he did to earn a living in life. I don't care if hes perfoming solja boy in game. He's dead, this is fantasy.

Courtney can't spell her own fucking name, are you telling me she understands the contract better than Activisions legal team? she talks about Activisions reputation but she still "sold" Kurt to Activision. That says everything about how she feels about Kurt and his legacy. Its a cash cow.

Jesus Christ, she has a song and dance about everything. They're not taking the piss out of him, I'd say they're paying their respects to a great musician.

She's mental. Completely bloody mental.
Hahahaha, that's awesome. She is mental. And I would believe she killed the guy.

What a hypocrite, she helped develop the in game avatar. She has no right to complain now.

Also, I'm vaguely certain she killed the man right? What a *****.

13 actually, but I get your point.

No, he is not some sacred cow or anything, and the music he helped found was just as bought/sold/paid for as every other corporate media being marketed.

The difference is, it's still respect for the dead....or disrespect in this case. As far as I know, the Beatles are only playing their music on Rockband, we aren't going to hear them attempt to sing Linkin Park or System of a Down. So why have (the image of) Kurt sing along with songs not only outside of his respective genre of music, but so FAR outside of his genre or music?

Now I could be completely wrong in thinking Courtney didn't sell the rights to Activision. Hell, she probably did based off of them telling her they'd do a "respectful" treatment of the artist.....those clips weren't respectful at all.

And yeah, if they used him or any other dead artist to promote McDonalds, that would piss me off.

I don't know what's more disrespectful...Kurt Cobain singing "You Give Love a Bad Name" (must be talking about Courtney Love), or Ozzy Osbourne (yes, he's alive, but still...) singing "La Bamba". No, wait, him singing "La Bamba" is disrespectful to Ritchie Valens. Associating with that guy...

In all seriousness, I watched the video. I saw no problem. I was barely alive when Nirvana was big, but I didn't see how having him sing other people's songs in addition to his own is disrespectful.

Sorry *****, you don't get to profit in the high tech rape of an dead rock icon. Only activision gets that honor.
