With the sudden barrage of big muscular manly films about men in full bodyarmour, spandex, or just the most amazing briefs ever made, I nearly overlooked this film, Cthulhu.
http://www.cthulhu-themovie.com/video.html for the trailer.
It seems like a nice break from adrenalin pumpers we've had recently.

I guess the reason why this hasn't got much attention is that its a gay Supernatural Horror Film

Why "Cthulhu"? Isn't this more of a "Shadow Over Innsmouth" kind of story?

Cthulhu Fhtagen!!

Fun fun, but why is it called just Cthulhu? That's not a very good name for a movie. Why not use Call of Cthulhu? I like that one better.

Agreed, thats based on Shadow Over Innsmouth not Call of Cthulhu. Then again the PC game also had more of a SOI ring to it. I guess you could connect the mythology, it's all supposed to me part of the same universe after all. I'd like to see a film based on Charles Dexter Ward (or maybe a mini series.)

Interesting. It might be a little hard to do well, though the trailer certainly looked good.

You're on the Escapist. Many Cthulhu fans here!

I just finished reading Herbert West, Reanimator. Lovecraft is an amazing writer. Though I've yet to get to Call Of Cthulhu but I'm working my way through his other fiction.

Yay! Herbert West! I also recommend the Dunwich Horror, Colour Out of Space, At The Mountains of Madness (soon to be Del Toro film by the looks of it) and The Thing On The Doorstep
EDIT:Oh yeah, and as mentioned earlier, Shadow Over Innsmouth

I think I have The Hounds before I get up to The Dunwich Horror and Colour from Out of Space. My favourite one so far is easily The Temple. The doomed German WW1 Submarine and the crew aboard slowly driving more and more insane. The one with the kitties and the nasty old people that hates cats is a good horror story to be easily repeated.

Ah the Hounds. The Temple is good, the satirical take on the german Captain is a little over done, but hey. The Music of Eric Zahn is an interesting one too. The Case of Charles Dexter Ward is another fave of mine.

You have to admit though that "Shadow over Innsmouth" does have a very gay vibe to it though. Trapped within a village that doesn't understand you wanting to break free of convention?

And I'd rather have a few male kisses than have it Hollywoodised.

I imagined it would have more atmosphere to it - maybe a little bit more subtle...but it just seems...awful.

The trailer seems like it tried to cram all the half-good scenes in, and when a trailer does that there's usually not a lot left to see in my experience.

That's just stupid basing it on shadow over innsmouth. I mean, unless I'm wrong, the film "Dagon" was actually based on that? Seems a little silly to be honest. That movie came out in 2001.... Seems odd to have something based on the same thing come out that fast?

[Edit]

Having seen the trailer, I think it could be good to be fair. If you like subtlety, everything in the trailer is the action bits, subtlety is all that will be LEFT. Although everyone likes the more subtle movies here, they have to appeal to the mainstream audience by showing the more action influenced bits in the trailer. Give this movie a chance.

I agree, that trailer is terrible. I haven't seen two minutes of the movie but I already know most of the movie.

Hopefully the actual film is good. I have to try and find The Cthulhu Mythos before the movie comes out.

Guilty. I was a particularly big fan in my mid-to-late teen years, but I still have an abiding love for his work.
That trailer reminds me of the sorts of things Uwe Boll does.
