Is Tim Burkley starting to understand humor?

I mean, here's his latest page at time of writing:
http://www.cad-comic.com/comics/cad/20100407.jpg
Compare this to the almost gaming-absent storyline of old, which I have not followed for quite some time and I would say it is quite inspired.
It's almost like he just went "they're right, make the joke and run" and it seems like it's working.

What do you fellows (and females) think?

CAD is like Robot Chicken, some parts are funny but never follow it religiously.

Frankly, I remember always liking his one-shot gaming humor comics. I haven't read the comic since 2008, though.

Or rather, it should be like Robot Chicken (because i'm pretty sure Robot Chicken did not even try any serious plotlines whatsoever). I mean, his early comics are also pretty funny.

That's actually the point of view I myself am taking with this, this is the first time I've bothered looking in a long time and here we go, a funny 2 panel page.
I was actually kinda surprised.

Everything on CAD that isn't the main storyline is very good.

Everything on CAD that is the main storyline is mediocre to bad.

It's occasionally aggravating, because it's clear he can be quite entertaining (even in the main story, early on), but in the majority of his comics he completely ignores what makes his good comics good.

Eh, I read every update, mostly cuz I'm bored and doesn't hardly take any time, and will do so for the foreseeable future, but I can definitely see the decline in quality/humor that has upset so many people about it.

CAD can be very funny at times. Tim Buckley just has a tendency to draw out storylines too much, and his idea of how to insert drama is legendary fail.
I must admit he's getting better lately. Ethan is finally becoming more than a twodimensional imbecile character, and with the robots removed the worst insanity is gone. CAD has been returned to my 'read regularly' list.

I thought that stupid robot was suspiciously absent...

Sorry buddy, I still didn't laugh. I don't like CAD, I've never like CAD so I don't think I will ever like CAD. However I can see it's more amusing then say, his abortion comic...

I shall always be an Explosm, VG cats and Concerned fan though

There have been quite a few times where CAD has become a huge soap opera. The older comics were more random, had less storyline and were much funnier.

I can appreciate Tim's need to explore his talent and try to evolve his life's work, but really, IMO, there's no need for the uber drama he's tried to create.

I think Buckley's been dealing with not knowing exactly what it is he's writing anymore. He took a major heel turn (you know the one) that alienated a large number of his long time fans. However, I genuinely do feel he's got the talent to make the comic work. That most recent one is actually quite good, I thought. The problem is he wants to do serious character development and his wacky, unchanging character traits simultaneously, and it gets a bit mental. The thing is that his characters aren't interesting to me now, because they all feel a little unreal, like the gears of change have power going to them but something's stopping them from moving, so all we get is a really creepy sound of a very loud machine trying to start up without annoying the neighbours.

Meh, to tell you the truth I don't even know why I read the comics anymore. They are not funny, and the storylines are pretty shallow these days.
Its like anything, eventually characters and their little quirks become trite. Sometimes a series has to end before it goes down the toilet.

I think I mainly go to the site because he often has some good articles and blog posts.

I am sometimes mildly amused. He sometimes has good links in the Twitter on the side as well.

I think he's capable of mildly humorous comics on occasion. I didn't bookmark it because I found it especially funny, but because somebody else did, and they talked about it on occasion.

Nothing new to add here: His drama plotlines have all been bad, his one-time comics are good on occasion.

It's his comic, he can do what he likes. If you don't like it, you don't have to read it.

I didn't get the most recent joke in the comic linked in the first post however. Maybe because I have no idea what game it is from.

Personally, I feel CAD gets worse as more frames are added to it. Buckley has a way of just ruining comics with too much text, or putting the punchline in panel 2 of 4 or whatever, and I just can't stand it. But when he does a short gaming related comic, they can come out decently to me. Sometimes. (Don't read em except ones I come across, as I just really don't like CAD much)

He seems to have learnt how to draw characters with different facial expressions too.

I liked the comics when they had random arrows. As soon as the whole marriage-thing came up, I bailed to the sillies.

I wished he'd do something with the Penguin and his master, they're just sitting in their room gathering dust or something...

I never understood the fascination with the penguin and that dickhead with the eletric door... always thought he could do with a quick bullet to the head, actually.
