he's lied about every game he's ever made and he's using the exact same tone in this one, so all I'm saying is I'm not going to be surprised when it turns out to be nothing like people were hoping for.
Pretty much this. Molyneux promises the world because that's what he does; it's part of his marketing shtick. Most of his fanbase (keyword: fan) are too stupid or blinded by fan zealotry that they either fail to remember his lies about every product he's ever made ever, or haven't encountered them in the past, and are thus suckered in by his lying about this one.

And these aren't small lies, either. BrotherRool posted several about fable, and that was just ONE GAME. He's done this for every game he's made, all the fables included, and it's fucking preposterous IMO. Molyneux is one of the biggest liars in the industry - he does it frequently and intentionally to increase sales of his mediocre games, which have nothing going for them so he makes up some bullshit that never sees the light of day and sometimes that they aren't even ATTEMPTING to put into the game, just to make it sound better than it is.

This is no different. At best the person will be able to name npcs, or have a unique item with his name on it, or his initials carved into the wall of fame in whatever version of heaven this game offers. He's not going to have world-bending powers, or the power to re-write game code in the blink of an eye. That's fantasy magic. This is Real Life (tm). They don't mix.

You know people give ole Petey such hell and really he is genuinely misunderstood.

Granted he is notorious for mispeaking and embellishment and yes it is right on that border of being forced to wonder if touch with reality is lost but if you take a moment, realize and simply accept he does this and cannot help it specifically because of his child like exuberance for his conceptualizations you would see he is really far less the snake oil salesman of gaming and much closer to Gene Roddenbury s ideology and its connection to his creation.

He does not do a good job of delivering, the merit Pete brings is that he is such an abstract thinker he is able to honestly conceptualize very well the types of directions and innovations the industry as a whole needs to gravitate toward to become not bigger, but BETTER. It is that abstract thought that goes well beyond his ability to manifest it that in fact will act as the spark of inspiration for others with more practical thinking who can step up to his challenge and make his illogical, impractical hypotheticals into fully functioning realities.

In other news, Peter Molyneux apparently has no idea what a "god" is.

I'm beginning to feel that participating in a P.M. game is like signing up to be a lab rat.

The explotation hidden under social experiment PR campaing status: sucess. As always, Mr Molyneux managed to profit major advertisement, for free, by lieing. awesome.

He is selling Godus based on a gimmick. So whom ever plays god gets money while they are god until they stop being god? Yeah, sounds like a part time job. Piece of crap game, so not interested. Doesnt Molly make real games anymore or is he a PR guy who makes games?

I is confused, what if this Curiosity winner guy doesn't want to spend all his time managing a game as some sort of gamemaster? Wouldn't that be very time consuming? He didn't sign up for this role. Was he given a choice? What if he isn't even interested in Godus? From what I've heard he's never played a Peter Molyneux game before, so it's not like he's some big fan who would kill for this opportunity. Won't this position earn him untold amounts of hate from anyone he disadvantages during his "reign"? Wouldn't his best choice as "God" be to just make everyone as happy and well off as possible thus defeating the point entirely? Why would you allow a random person you don't know so much control over your game? Isn't that a horrible, horrible idea? What if he had been someone with a psychological disorder, now your highest ruling god is someone with bipolar disorder who's gonna create the rapture every time he has an episode. Worse, what if he's an asshole or some sort of greifer? What's to stop him from constantly screwing everyone over just for the hell of it? Why would someone even want this role? It's not like he's going to imprint his vision onto the game, he can't do anything the designers haven't already coded for so he's basically just picking between limited options. This seems like a lot of work with little reward and the possibility of becoming infamous among the games community. Does this disqualify him from ever playing the actual game? What if the game sells poorly? It seems this magnificent, wonderful "prize" is an unknown value. Who is this Peter Molyneux and why are people letting him make decisions? Most of his ideas seem like the kind of thing you come up with when you're stoned, but then when you sober up and think back your realize how stupid and impractical it is. Keep in mind I've never been stoned I'm just basing this on how people act in movies where they get stoned, which is probably not what it's really like. But still it's hard to believe Peter Molyneux was clear in the head when he cam up with this idea. Based on how he talks... Valium maybe?

All sounds like a rather good prize to me, cash and influence on a game. I backed Godus on Kickstarter so I'm quite looking forward to it. No idea how the singleplayer will pan out, but they have the Black and White 2 writer on it so it should be good.

Their weekly videos on their Youtube channel regarding the Godus' progress are quite enjoyable if anyone else is interested.

Booom!!!!

Oh wait, that's NOT the sound of my mind being blown, because I already KNEW that Molyneux always lies and makes changes to his story realllll soon after saying ANYTHING.

So this guy has no right to be dissapointed by this news, as he should've learned from Fable's development journals and every other time Ol' Pete has opened his mouth!

I don't even think they need to be stupid. He really is good at his schtick and there are very few journalists who are willing to hardball him in an interview or stop him when he really gets started (and it always makes good headlines). there's something about the way that he talks that makes people forget that he's said the exact same stuff about every single game he's made and it never happens.

And in all honesty, that's probably the truth. He's not lying, that was me poking fun at the way what he says never ever happens. It's just he doesn't know yet. I'd bet a fair amount on that. He's had an idea of what sounds cool, but he doesn't know what it is, or how he's going to implement it and half a year down the line he'll figure something out and present it to us. That's why we've already had this 'till the end of his reign' thing pop up. He's spinning ideas
That actually does sound like the truth. I remember watching a game show a few months back where they just had a section where they talked about accidents in games that led to the game being better, and they talked about PM's first game he ever made. I can't remember most of what was said, but I do remember them saying that PM admitted that the games main difficulty of having to build the environment in certain ways to get the 'people' to go in the right direction actually came about because he didn't know how to program the AI very well. So yeah, this statement really does seem to ring true, and while I don't hate PM, I am getting pretty sick of the amount of bullshit that comes out of his mouth.

Hmmm. I must nip over to the Godus Kickstarter threads, see if the whole MMO angle this is clearly shaping into is going to go over well.

Molyneux... I forgot this was Molyneux we were talking about. I just took his words at face value without contemplating the fact that it was him speaking them. And there I was starting to wish well on someone for doing something good. Turns out it was only temporary, silly me.

Ironically, that sounds exactly like what a manipulative God would do so, Molyneux being himself is... appropriate in this case I guess? Oh well, hope the guy still enjoys the temporary godhood.
