Howdy guys, I'm a noob to D&D and I'm making a Human Duskblade, but I'm having a little trouble figuring some stuff out.

According to the book, my class gets skill points equal to 2 + my Int modifier per level, x4 at 1st level. Then there's the extra 4 I get from the human racial bonus, so does this mean I get 20 skill points? (2 + Int mod of 2 at level 1, * 4 at 1st level, + 4 from racial bonus) Then at level 2 what would it be?

I'm not looking for any suggestions for improvements on my character, I just want this question answered.

your math is correct, and the x4 only applies at level 1, so at level 2 you would get your Int bonus+2 points.

The bonus points a human gets only count at first level. After that, they get the normal amount of skill points the class would get.

Your Guy at Level 1: 2+2(4)=16+4(Human Racial Bonus)=20 total
Level 2: 2+INT MOD; that's it

yeah that's 20 at first level.
then every level after that it should be:
2+[int mod] skill points +1 for being human.
so that's 20 skill points at 1st level and 5 skill points every level after that.
seeing as at level 1 you can only increase skills to a max of 4 ranks and the cap raises by 1 every level, you can max out 5 skills, and keep them maxed every level, or you can go a more all-round approach and spread your skills over the selection given by your class.

the people above are forgetting the bonus point at each level.
quote on page 13 under Human Racial Traits:
"4 extra skill points at 1st level and 1 extra skill point at each
additional level, since humans are versatile and capable. (The 4
skill points at 1st level are added on as a bonus, not multiplied in;
see Chapter 4: Skills.)"

hope this helped

You get 2 (class) + 2 (int) + 1 (race) = 5 per level, and 5x4 = 20 at first level.

You're playing 3.5 clearly - threw me for a second. ^^;; Got used to 4E and Pathfinder.

I've actually got another question, I'm still building my character. The Player's Handbook says the Duskblade has a hit die of d8. What does this mean? I know what a d8 is, but what does the hit die mean? Doesn't the attack roll use a d20?

Also, on my character sheet, one of the fields is for attack. What does that mean? I know about attack bonus, damage, crits, etc. but the "Attack" field is a bit vague.

This is pretty much my first time playing any kind of tabletop, I'm used to RPG's that do the math for you.

Your Hit Dice have to do with Hit Points and you get one d8 per level. First level you start with the maximum (8+your Con modifier). You roll a d8 every level up and add your Con modifier.

This. Also, most DM's I've played with have always given full HP at first level, plus any con bonuses. Y'know, to cut down on the insta-death. :p

The "attack" section is where you fill in your actual attack bonus for each weapon you use, and where you can keep track of stuff like how much ammo you have left for your ranged weapons and so on. In the box labeled "Attack" you just write down the weapon's name, and then you fill in the other boxes with the information specific to that weapon. This is important because you can potentially have a different attack bonus and other things for each of your weapons. Take attack bonus, for example. For melee weapons it's (Base Attack Bonus + STR mod + any other bonuses from feats, class abilities or circumstances) and for ranged weapons it's (Base Attack Bonus + DEX mod + any other bonuses from feats, class abilities, etc.). So if you took Weapon Focus (Longsword) as a feat, and you're carrying a longsword, a morningstar, and a longbow, the attack bonus will be different for all three. This is why it's good to have that information readily available while you're playing, so you don't have to sit there and figure it all out in the middle of your turn.

Ask more questions I need to feel like my nerditry is justified and helping someone else :|

Oh, oh, your 'Attack' is generally your Attack Bonus from levels + stat modifiers (Str for melee weapons/Dex for ranged and touch atks unless you have a feat that changes this). Attack Bonus should be listed under the classes stats.
