Hey all,

I'm still pretty new to D&D (only been playing for around a week). I'm getting together with some buddies tonight and I'm working on putting together a level 1 Tiefling Warlock Hexblade.

I rolled for my stats and they turned out pretty good. My only question is since my weapon is summoned by my implement when I calculate melee attack rolls and damage rolls which ability modifier applies to it? All the book says is that the sword does 1d12 damage.

My strength is 6. So to calculate my basic melee attack is it (Level) 1 + (Str Mod) -2 + (Prof.) 2

OR

Do I use my Con modifier as an infernal pact hexblade?

Thanks for help in advance!

Your infernal pack weapon Blade of Annihilation as described on p231-232 has a at-will power called Soul Eater that is Charisma vs AC and [W] + Charisma mod for necrotic damage. The power can be used as a basic attack, so you use these modifiers when making any attacks with the weapon.

So it is [1/2 Level or 0*] + Charisma modifier** + weapon proficiency(+2 for this weapon is the attack roll)

Damage is 1d12 + Charisma modifier

so if you has a 18 charisma it would read:

+6(4+2) for attack and 1d12+4 damage

* bonus are rounded down, so you don't get a +1 to hit until you reach 2nd level
** Charisma should be your highest score for this build as it will effect all of attack and damage rolls. Constitution is your secondary as it enhances damage on others powers.

Typically a Hexblade wields a their blade in one hand and their wand or rod implement in the other. When you get an enchanted implement like a +1 rod, it adds to your blade.

A Good feat to take is Rod Expertise because you get a +1 attack with the rod(implement) and a +1 shield bonus. In addition, because your blade has the implement keyword, you gain the +1 to hit with the Soul eater power and all of your powers with the implement keyword.
