My main problem, and I'm a gamer, was the 'soliciting critical comments from a grieving family member.', and I kind of hope she's got a good lawyer ready to make them pay out again, although I doubt a second apology will be forthcoming as she won't have Rockstar's cash backing her up.
To me, that part of the entire fiction was by far the most offensive, it's one step from stopping a couple who's house has been robbed to tell them that's it's also just been burnt down, and what are their feelings on that, only for them to get home to find it still intact.
while I commend Rockstar for their actions, and it can only make them look far more responsible than the Star, I still hold out that they'll have to pay for their incredibly insensitive behaviour towards Moat's relative.
I also smiled at the comedy of the button marked "More 'news' here" underneath, seemingly admitting openly that they've given up on reporting any facts at all. Along with the common sense of turning off the comments section for this event.
I also think that reporter needs some serious talking to, as 'us sad gamers who sit around playing games all day' were not offended about a fake game, we were offended that you'd label us all as ghouls just waiting to step into the shoes of a serial killer, when you're the one poking a grieving relative with a stick saying 'go on, say something I can put in my paper, no more than two syllables please.'
The correct action to be proven to be a liar and a inciteful idiot is not to mock a third of your readership. (Well, I read that a third of the UK are now gamers, I imagine most gamers are too intelligent to be Star readers, but you get my point.)
