I'm not sure how many of you reading this thread know me, or even if you know of me, but that's alright. For the briefest introduction, I'm NewClassic, and I enjoy writing. I had a New Years resolution to start writing more frequently. I tried doing a daily writing thing, and dropped the ball pretty badly. I wasn't happy with that, so I tried to pick it up and work on it more.

And dropped the ball again.

So, I've decided it's been long enough that I was just procrastinating, and I should try again. (EDIT: Daily didn't work out, but bear with me.) After reading some tips on writing, which I'm always happy to ingest at break-neck speed, it recommended that I write more often. It also suggested I write with wider varieties, read more varied material, and learn and practice in ways I never thought I would do. So, in short, I need to practice more and differently than I usually do. Here's where you come in.

I'd like to ask readers, or any who wants to see an idea explored, to submit ideas that I could work on. Ideally, it's going to be mostly fiction work of nearly every genre. I'd like to also do non-fiction, novella style projects, really short-form media, poetry, and anything else normally out of my comfort zone. (Despite not really being "daily," I'm still doing this. Your ideas are, as always, super helpful. Thank you all so much.)

I feel it's egotistical to assume people want me to work on their ideas, but I genuinely feel like I couldn't do this on my own and achieve the same results, if I even could at all. So what I'm mostly asking for is help.

And since I'd rather not go into this completely blind, I'm going to offer you folks a piece of fiction I'm doing for Day 1. The idea was given to me by Sevre, specifically "write about a serial killer who got away with it, but has to live with the guilt."

Warning you again, here. It's pretty violent. If that's not your thing, or you're bother by blood, feel free to skip it.

Sleep At Night [http://bit.ly/oILOwq]

So, ideally, I'd like to continue doing stories like these, from prompts both in and out of my comfort zone. The less say I have in things, the better.

So, I'd like to open up this thread to discussion about narrative theory in general, or what your opinion is on the daily writing thing. Or things you liked/disliked about the piece for day one.

Appreciate your time, and if you're interesting in sending me ideas, feel free to PM me for an e-mail address to use. Thank you all very much.

Warmest regards,
Nuke

Well now Mr Newc, I have an idea for you.
Remember the <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.73268-Robot-Dystopia-A-Freeware-RP-Coded-by-NinjOS>Robot Dystopia RP that you ran a while back? Well I know you do because I just talked to you about it on skype, but anyway I'd be quite interested in the tale of a frightened family living under the regime of the robot ovaloids, witnessing the horrors of the world around them and the desperate acts of the resistance, who they in mind fully support but act in total obedience of the robots to keep their children safe.

Going kind of in the same vein as TheGhostOfSin, do you remember the You: the movie [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.72475-You-The-Movie?page=3#763790] thread? It was back when I first joined up here.

You wrote a post that was basically a trailer for "The Escapist" movie. I absolutely loved what you did with that whole deal. Unfortunately, many of those used in that have moved on from this site, but I still would like to see something more done with that. If you have any ideas for it, that is.

EDIT: added link to post in question

It's difficult to be creative.

Now write about a bird who can't fly and must learn to accept the bleak reality of not being fit for purpose.

That story was fucking amazing dude.

I'm an artist, but I do enjoy writing too, majorly horror short stories. Not entirely sure why, but I do. You're my new idol, keep making these stories.

Really nice story, especially since I hate admitting anyone's writing is good.

I'm pretty exhausted, but I'd be glad to get on this one tomorrow. Man, it's bad. Just started, and I already missed a day. Ah well.

Write a story that changes POV everytime someone talks.
Ooh, this one seems like it'll be simultaneously fun and a headache. I'll be happy to do so. So, I think this will be my idea for Monday.

Josh|lionaire: hey nuke
[03:48am] NewClassic: Heya Lionaire.
[03:49am] Josh|lionaire: write a fantasy story where the fantasy characters come into the real world
[03:49am] Josh|lionaire: the twist being that for the reader, the real world is unidentifiable
[03:49am] NewClassic: How so?
[03:49am] Josh|lionaire: for example, cars will never be referred to as cars
[03:49am] Josh|lionaire: the entire book, it will be dangerous loud animals
[03:50am] Josh|lionaire: the entire story
[03:50am] NewClassic: So, from the point of view of the fantasy characters, but describing a modern setting?
[03:50am] Josh|lionaire: exactly
[03:50am] NewClassic: I could probably manage that.
[03:50am] Josh|lionaire: but even from the point of view of the reader the modern world feels alien
[03:50am] NewClassic: Right. Narrated as a foreign land.
[03:51am] ThePoodonkis left the chat room. (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
[03:51am] Josh|lionaire: id say the goal is for the reader to feel more comfortable in the fantasy setting than the modern day setting
[03:51am] Josh|lionaire: its a bit like harry potter in reverse

Just stick with it. If you miss a day, then you miss a day. It's like college, you're guaranteed to miss a few classes. Just make sure you don't make a habit of it.

Here's one: A genetically-engineered Taiwanese chef teams up with a newt in a fez to rescue his large-bosomed girlfriend from mummies. There, you see? It's easy. A breast cancer specialist with large bosoms journeys through time to pay for a breast enlargement. A race of bosom people set out on an armada of bosoms to find a new bosom homeworld.

Bosoms, melons, milk factories, busts, funbags, knockers, boobies, jugs, nipples, jubblies, STONKING... GREAT... TITS.

I'd love to see what you could come up with from that ;)

Write a story about donuts and other pastries that band together to fight the insects that come to devour them after they've been left unattended at a picnic. You do want suggestions right?

Uh...

Throw in a watermelon who serves as the wise old man character and the remains of a cookie that warns the heroes of the trials they face.

I have an idea.

Write a few diary entries from the point of view of the drummer of a failed punk band that started in the mid 70s. They'll be from a few key points in the bands history.

Possible entries.
- when they first decided to want to be in a band
- when meet up with the band
- getting to know their band-mates
- opinions on how they think the band dynamic works ( who's better friends with who and the hierarchy )
- playing their first gig
- first band fight/line up change
- watching another bigger band play and realising they aren't good enough
- watching members leave and move onto other thing ( wanting a solid job, getting a girlfriend, no longer "living punk" )
- watching as they turn 30/40 and wishing they could have taken all back or thinking about how much they loved it and even though they didn't make it they did what they enjoyed

I chose the drummer because in regards to how a band works, the drummer plays the beat while the guitarist/s, bass player and singer sort of co-mingle and work out what they do amongst themselves while the drummer observes.

Well, that is my idea, just came up with it and though if done well if could be interesting and inspiring. Take it or leave it, the choice is yours and I don't mind either way.

Yep. Decided that the longer I fretted over it, the less I'd actually get done. Going to try to piece it apart. Here's part one [http://bit.ly/phjzNq] for you.

Ugh, Harry Potter in reverse. I'm not quite sold on this idea. I hated the Harry Potter universe. However, I took the task to heart, and gave it my best bet. I'm still not sold on how well I did, but here is part one [http://bit.ly/pFhm1D].

Also, for anyone just now joining in, feel free to pitch more ideas. I'll do my best to keep working on them.

A story set in "heaven", which is an infinite network of "paradise nodes", or little alternate realities one can visit according to their preference. Somewhere in this maze is a old south style plantation, slaves included. This is an old woman's node. A young man and his black wife come to visit this world she's lived in for many many years, to talk to the woman who's good works made her name still well known even now in the young man's home town, and the pride of his family. But when they meet they are both overwhelmed with culture shock. The man feels disillusioned and angry, and the old woman is offended and scandalized- at the relationship, and at his manners.

The old woman is a good woman with a coat of gruffness under a thicker coat of social correctness. The man is a man of quick passions and strong ideals. He has little patience for anything he considers wrong.

What happens?

Edit: Sorry, I didn't really realize how constricting this is. I guess it's just difficult to avoid fleshing out an idea that appeals to you.
