pure mage sucks if you come across magic resistant mobs.
But those are the only magic resistant enemies in the entire game...
Not that I'm saying every sorcerer needs to be pure, but if that's what you want, it's more than plausible... The only issues I've come across are PvP issues, specifically Profound Still and the Magic Barriers of course, and Magic Barrier is still gonna be a big problem for how most people set up spell/melee hybrid builds anyway.
I tried useing magic against the boss of that area. she's magic resistant as hell. the summons did more damage then my spells. my fire longsword did more. of atleast the same.
That's odd. I tried a pure sorcerer again (the first was a hybrid pyromancer/sorcerer and the didn't work out) no more recent than 5 days ago.
I:
Rushed through Heide's and No Man's for Carrilion's spells(I don't think I bothered with Flexile Sentry),
Rushed to Skeleton Lords,
Then I did Executioner's Chariot for the bonfire there in case the Ascetic affected it (which it didn't)
Used the starting gift Ascetic on the Lords and did them again for Clear Bluestone +2,
Got the branch from the start of Harvest Valley,
Bought Chloanne's Ascetic and Headed straight to Shaded Woods,
Beat Najka,
Used the Ascetic there and beat her again for Southern Ritual Band +2.
The hardest part by far was the NG+ Skeleton Lords because the Bonewheel's could 1-shot me. I remember the ease of Najka being a relief, although on NG+ my plain old Sorcerer's Catalyst nearly broke. I did die to her actually because I got stuck on some twigs, but I'd just gotten to 40INT by that point and equipped the Soul Spear you get from Huntsman's, and she went down even quicker.
If she does resist magic in any way and I guess it makes some sense that she would, I don't recall doing lower numbers than I'd done the other two, so she has a lot less health than I remember from previous builds to say the least. The only time I was really worried about running out of spells was the NG+ Lords, and my catalyst actually did break in there.
I finished that build very quickly actually... it was a lot easier than I was expecting.
